My bone to pick with social media.

In a real, ordinary, non-curated life:
“Success is not the absence of struggle”

And what this means — is that you don’t have to beat yourself up for struggling — with your health, your mental health, your relationships, your job, your healing. It can all look a bit messy, AND you can be achieving small and important steps of success that should be celebrated.

BUT — social media is all about absence of struggle. And absence of imperfection.
And often, the absence of human connection.

Social media is a space to celebrate our flawless success, unless… our struggle is “big enough” to be worth posting.

If you’ve ever heard of social media being compared to the popularity contest that takes place in most high schools… well, this is what I’m talking about!

To receive likes/views/etc. online, there is often this pressure for the thing you’re posting about to be on either end of the spectrum, of either a) total success with no struggle, OR b) total struggle, and one that’s meaningful enough to be worth posting.

But what about all the grey — all the dull, yet beautiful in-between moments of our lives?

The ones that connect us as human beings, yet seem to have no place in the current world of social media.

So… why are we all gathered here?

Some days I don’t have an answer to this. And I question why I bother to show up online. And I take breaks (often) from even logging on.

Having said that, here’s why I still show up:
- those small but powerful connection points I have made, because of social media
- hope that more of the grey & in-between moments can and will be celebrated online
- I may only be one voice, but I have the power to follow through on the second bullet point, in hopes that it inspires others to do the same!
- laughter! If the right meme comes my way through the algorithm, I end up laughing so hard that my dog looks at me with a very confused and concerned expression…
- my desire to be inspired by other therapists out there, who I’ve noticed, like me, are breaking barriers and posting about themselves and their practices unapologetically
- because in a world where there’s so much out of my control, it feels good to use my voice to share kind, respectful, honest, content - in hopes that it lands softly upon someone else’s day

What’s your why - for continuing to log on?

If your year was filled with survival mode, just getting by, or not-so-smooth life transitions, the comparison trap can hit hard as you see everyone else posting their highlight reel.

If you had a hard year, or just didn’t have the time or capacity to reach your goals - that’s OKAY!

Small steps count too. And small wins deserve celebration just as much as the big ones.

If you wish you felt more like yourself, and you made one small change to get closer to where you want to be this year - that is a HUGE win.

If you are grieving and are just getting by each day - your journey matters, and your resilience is a HUGE win.

If you are a parent and you made sure your little one often felt safe and loved this year - that is a HUGE win.

However big or small your wins this year - I see you. And I want to feel celebrated!

Thank you to everyone who’s been following along on my account, I’m looking forward to all the connections that 2026 has in store and hope to practice intentional, purposeful online engagement (& I reallllllly hope I reduce my scrolling. TBD!!)

Exciting news!

I’m thrilled to be joining a second clinical team in Calgary, at Connected Family Counselling! 🌱

I am joining a small but mighty team of mental health professionals where we believe in practicing what we preach - which means we aim to take care of ourselves first, and ensure we have our full energy and presence ready for you when you come in to your appointment.
We also know that healing takes place within the family system - we have individual, couples, and family sessions available (if you come to see me, I’m your person for 1:1 support, and I can connect you with our other lovely therapists for couples & family support!)

As of right now, I am accepting new clients at both Family Connected Counselling in Douglas Glen, and Serenity Now Wellness in Inglewood.

My favourite part of working at a group practice means connection, collaboration, and a whole lot of support for me as an ever-growing therapist. I believe in life-long learning and am so grateful to work alongside some amazing therapists who are also amazing humans!

See link in bio for booking, or if you would like to reach out with any questions about the two clinics 🤍

I have spent a full week pondering what I might share for my first content post since returning to social media.
Cue the topic that landed… Overthinking! 😅

With the holidays around the corner, many people begin to overthink things like:
❅ what gifts to purchase, how many gifts to purchase
❅ keeping a perfectly clean home
❅ holiday plans & traditions
❅ whether their feelings about the holidays are normal
❅ worrying about disappointing others
❅ for parents, how they are going to make the holidays feel magical for their little one(s)

The demanding pressures of social media often strengthen our overthinking patterns. Seeing others engage in what appears to be the “perfect” holiday gatherings, crafts, baking, photo shoots, children’s activities, etc. only fuels our inner critic who then tells us “you should be doing more.”

While we can’t control what others post online, we can control:
❅ who we follow online
❅ the choice to remind ourselves that social media content is curated (most people aren’t sharing online about their boring, lonely, or difficult moments)
❅ how we speak to ourselves

On this note, I’ll offer you one takeaway:
❅ What’s one phrase you can use to speak more gently to yourself over the holidays?

Try to find a few quiet minutes in your day to reflect or even journal about this prompt 🤍
