Lately I've been thinking about the pacing of life and how pressured it feels to get all the things accomplished within a certain timeline. I've been enjoying working with new clients from my new space supporting a purposeful pace and finding joy in the journey. Life is not a race.

At the end of the day, choosing a therapist is all about finding someone who is the right "fit." You may have specific criteria and that's okay - just try and keep an open mind, you might surprise yourself with who you connect with!

One metaphor I love to use is that your mind is like a garden. And even if you don't have a "green thumb" in real life - you can have one for your brain.
Caring for a garden (aka. your mind) means:

⭐️ Planting seeds (building new healthy habits)
⭐️ Watering regularly (getting enough sleep & good nutrition)
⭐️ Picking the weeds (going to therapy, journaling or individual coaching)
⭐️ Harvesting the fruits of your labour (finding joy every day)

If your mind is in need of a helping hand - book a free no no-obligation consultation call with me through the link in my bio!

Here's a helpful metaphor to think of when you feel like locking those negative emotions away.

What is "Avoidance"?

Well, first, avoidance is what happens when your brain judges something as "bad," and so it thinks, "If I ignore this, I can get rid of it."

Unfortunately, that's not true. And it's a common misconception that people are "just lazy" since the common indicators of avoidance are:

▪ Self-medicating
▪ Isolation
▪ Doom scrolling (social media)
▪ Always playing videogames or constantly on the phone
▪ Messy rooms

There's usually more than meets the eye when it comes to avoidance, so if you or your teen are struggling with it - let's talk. Anyone can learn systems and mechanisms to help flip the switch and get out of the avoidance cycle.

Three ways to manage your stress in the moment when you feel overwhelmed:
First: Counting to 10 before speaking or reacting
Second: Unclenching your body and take a deep breath
Third: Get outside for some fresh air or walk to clear your head.

Learning to be comfortable seeing things a different way and understanding the way your mind sometimes works against you are invaluable tools along your journey.

As the weather turns a bit chillier, the days get a bit shorter and a new season is coming - take a moment to think of everything you were grateful for this summer!

Even better, jot it down in your notes app - and try and write something every day. That way, you can always remind yourself of all the good even after a tough day.
