Most people don’t realize that the word “fragrance” on a label can represent dozens of chemicals that don’t have to be individually disclosed. Many of these chemicals are known to irritate the nervous system, disrupt hormones, and add stress to the body’s detox processes…
Because fragrance is inhaled and absorbed through the skin, exposure often happens daily; sometimes multiple times a day. Over time, that constant input can keep the nervous system in a more reactive, protective state rather than a healing one.
For some people this shows up as headaches, brain fog, fatigue, or feeling “on edge.” For others, it’s quieter... they simply feel better, calmer, and clearer once fragrance exposure is reduced.
This isn’t about fear or perfection. And it doesn’t mean you need to change everything at once. It’s about being honest with what the body has to process every day and making small choices that create less interference.
Sometimes the biggest health improvement is from letting less in. I encourage you to try and go scent free for a week and maybe swap some of those body lotions or hand creams to something more natural.
One step at a time.
