Hello everyone! It’s me, your favourite caregiver from Favour Home Care 💛
Today, I want to talk to you about something very important — your medications.

How often do you take your medications?
Do you take them exactly as prescribed?

Many of you are living with chronic conditions that can be uncomfortable and sometimes even debilitating. Your medications are there to help you feel better, manage your symptoms, and improve your quality of life. But if you don’t take them regularly or correctly, your condition can worsen — and in some cases, it can even become life-threatening.

So here are a few simple tips to help you stay on track:

✨ 1. Set Reminders

Use your phone to set alarms for each dose. It removes the stress of having to remember.

✨ 2. Keep Medications Where You Can Access Them Safely

Yes — keep them away from children and vulnerable adults.
But keep them accessible for YOU:
• Your bathroom cupboard is great if you take meds morning and night.
• Your kitchen shelf works too if that’s where you spend time.
• If you sit by the TV often, keep a small side-table drawer for your meds so you don’t have to get up when it’s time.

✨ 3. Use Blister Packs from Your Pharmacy

Pharmacies can pre-package your medications by date and time, making it easy to know exactly what to take and when. No confusion, no missed doses.

✨ 4. Get a Pill Organizer

Dollar stores, pharmacies, and even grocery stores sell pill organizers.
They’re small, cheap, and perfect to keep in your bag if you’re always on the go.

✨ 5. Ask for Help When You Need It

At Favour Home Care, our caregivers, HCAs, and home-care nurses can help with:
• Medication reminders
• Medication administration (by qualified nurses)
• Organizing your pills
• Monitoring your routine to make sure you stay safe and healthy

You don’t have to do it alone. We’re just a phone call away — ready to support you.

Thank you, and take good care of yourself!
Have a beautiful day. 💛

What Is Dementia?

Dementia is a condition that affects a person’s memory, thinking, communication, and ability to perform daily tasks. It isn’t a single disease but a group of symptoms caused by changes in the brain. People with dementia may forget recent events, become confused, or find it difficult to express themselves — but they still feel emotions deeply and respond to kindness, tone, and presence.

How to Communicate Kindly and Gently with Someone with Dementia

1. Speak Slowly and Use Simple Words

Avoid rushing. A calm, steady voice helps reduce confusion. Short sentences make it easier for them to follow the conversation.

2. Maintain Eye Contact and Stay at Their Level

Face them directly and keep a soft expression. Eye contact tells them you’re present, patient, and safe.

3. Use a Warm Tone, Even When Repeating Yourself

They may ask the same question many times. Instead of correcting or showing frustration, respond in a gentle, reassuring tone each time.

4. Validate Their Feelings Before Giving Direction

Even when their words don’t make sense, their emotions are real. Say things like:
“I understand you’re worried. I’m here with you.”
This builds trust and comfort.

5. Use Touch Carefully and Comfortingly

A light touch on the hand or shoulder can reassure them — but always observe if they are comfortable. Physical reassurance often speaks louder than words.

Stay Warm, Stay Safe — A Little Note from Favour Home Care 💛”

Hey everyone! How are you doing?
So, we’re in November now — and yes, it’s getting colder! Depending on where you are in Canada, you’ve probably felt that chill in the air. Here in Alberta, it was so chilly yesterday — the jacket I wore didn’t even help! I was shaking and running to my car just to find some warmth. 🥶

Now, to my lovely seniors — this is the perfect time to bring out those cozy sweaters and warm clothes.
✨ Choose sweaters that button in the front — they’re easier to wear, and your caregiver can help button them up for you if needed.
✨ When you’re at home, keep a good blanket, fleece, or shawl nearby.
✨ Layer up — wear thermals under your pants and stay snug!
✨ And if you have a fireplace, this is the moment to get it crackling! If not, a small electric heater by your favorite chair can make a big difference.

Take care of yourself, stay warm, and remember — Favour Home Care is always just a call away.
We’re right by your doorstep,
Are you ready to say, “Come in, let’s walk this journey together.”

Stay cozy and have a beautiful fall season! 🍁💛
