How to Implement Memory Games at Home

You don’t need fancy equipment. Keep it simple, calm, and familiar.

Pick a moment when your loved one is relaxed—. Avoid times of fatigue or sundowning.

2️⃣ Keep it familiar
Use old family photos, familiar objects, or large-print picture cards. Ask gentle questions like:
“Do you remember this place?” or “What did you enjoy doing back then?”

3️⃣ One step at a time
Simple matching games, word associations, or finishing common sayings work best. There’s no right or wrong—focus on participation, not accuracy.

4️⃣ Follow their lead
If they get tired or distracted, pause. A smile or short engagement is already a win.

5️⃣ Celebrate the moment
A laugh, a story, or even eye contact matters. These moments support emotional wellbeing and dignity.

✔️ Keep walkways inside the house clear.
✔️ Remove loose rugs or secure them with non-slip backing (because rugs have a secret hobby: tripping people).
✔️ Keep cords, cables, and holiday decorations out of pathways.
✔️ Make sure floors stay dry — winter boots love bringing in water, snow, and chaos.

The less clutter on the floor, the fewer chances of you doing an unexpected winter split.
