Feeling confused or frustrated by this advice? ⬇️⬇️⬇️
Sometimes great advice gets misinterpreted or incorrectly applied in therapy. A good example of this that I often see is when I’m guiding someone to be accepting of anxiety rather than attempting to get rid of it, this advice can backfire.
Sometimes, people confuse acceptance with tolerating (I.e. white knuckling) or learning to love and be okay with something. That’s not what this is about at all.
The reality is that anxiety is a normal human emotion that we all experience. We are hardwired to have this feeling and the harder we try to eliminate it the more ingrained it becomes, and the louder it is.
My clients do better and find great success and overcoming anxiety by being open to the experience of anxiety. Letting go of rigidity and rules around what is acceptable and what is not, in my opinion is what often moves the needle in therapy. You could be doing all the therapy techniques correctly, but if you’re stuck on a mission to fully eliminate anxiety, you will continue to suffer.
What questions do you have about this one?
One final note is that, of course, this is easier said than done so I would recommend finding an anxiety therapist near you to guide you on this journey.
Save this post for later when you need it most! And just know that it’s okay to let go and let be! ✨🫶🏻
How can you incorporate a mini break today?
Wanna know why I always talk about this? ⬇️⬇️⬇️
Because, I see over and over in my action-taking, over-achieving clients that they wanna know how to “fix” the problem, like yesterday.
By fix, they usually mean get rid of feeling uncomfortable, anxious, or tense. Completely. Gone.
Unfortunately, sticking to this agenda keeps us stuck in all-or-nothing thinking that actually prolongs and maintains distress.
It leads to the belief that I’ll (do this amazing thing with my life/feel alive) when my anxiety is gone.
Listen up y’all:
You’re gonna be waiting a loooong time.
Seriously, see what I said above. This rigid style of thinking promotes more anxiety. We have innate fear responses that are your brains way of keeping you safe. If your brain thinks you’re ignoring those danger signals, it’s only gonna get louder - like me asking my kids to clean up after themselves 😜
Instead, help your brain and nervous system feel heard and understood by allowing and, if I may be so bold, even inviting in discomfort.
What gets in the way of executing this? Comment and let me know! 🫶🏻

Ready to break the chains? ⬇️⬇️⬇️
The endless to-do’s and thinking of all the invisible tasks is also called the mental load of motherhood.
We know that women disproportionately shoulder this load, regardless of how helpful their partner is.
Here are three options to help reduce your load today:
1. Ask for help, and be specific about which tasks and when.
2. Simplify! Are you trying to do things perfectly, or more elaborately, than needed?
3. Just say no. Not everything needs to get done today.
4. Embrace imperfection. No one will ever be on top of ALLLL the things. Allow yourself to do what you can and be okay with that.

Can you spot the difference? ⬇️⬇️⬇️
Learning to distinguish deep inner knowing from anxiety is really helpful for recovery.
It’s not always this clear cut due to a funny little concept called Magical Thinking (aka Thought-Action Fusion)….see my upcoming post on this.
However, simply put, does your feeling come with a calm or agitated feeling?

Your loved ones may be inadvertently making your anxiety worse. When we love someone, we don’t wanna see them suffer.
However, offering reassurance for anxiety often becomes a crutch.
Here’s what I want you to know:
🌟There’s a better way to offer and receive support.
🌟It’s more about knowing your loved ones are there for you, rather than them fixing it for you.
🌟Cause you’re stronger than you think. Anxiety robs you of confidence. This is one way of restoring your confidence and trust in yourself.
