JANUARY, THE MONTH THAT FEELS LIKE MONDAYS!⁣

I don’t know about you but this month has been a slog! ⁣

The holidays are over, the credit card bills have arrived, I feel pressure to make/meet new goals, and it’s cold, miserable and DARK!⁣

The last several weeks we have been stuck in a polar vortex where every time you step out, it’s a holy crap I can’t feel my face situation 🥶 ⁣

Add hazy, overcast skies, poor sleep due to lack of sunlight, less movement + perimenopause and well…I became a SAD little house troll for 3 weeks! 🧌 ⁣

I joke but many people suffer from SAD (seasonal affective disorder) ADD in perimenopause mood changes and this can become a major problem for many midlife women in winter.⁣

5 THINGS TO DO TO BEAT WINTER FUNK👇🏼⁣

1️⃣ Days are shorter and it’s dark! Get as much sunlight as possible, if stuck in polar vortex use Light Therapy Lamps💡 ⁣
2️⃣ Movement is a great way to boost mood. Daily brisk walks + weight training is EVERYTHING 🙌🏼Too cold outside for a walk? Jump on the treadmill, walk around your house, walk around a mall.⁣
3️⃣ Set realistic goals! Losing 20lbs in 30 days is ridiculous and not sustainable. Working out 7 days a week will just make you want to quit. Change takes time, be kind, honest and patient with yourself!⁣
4️⃣ Min 7-9hrs 💤, do this like your life depends on it. Cellular repair happens when you sleep, without it your circadian rhythm will be thrown out of sync and hormones will follow.⁣
5️⃣ Take a screen break! I know you just want to binge Netflix or scroll social media BUT that will make you feel like crap and tank your sleep! INSTEAD Read a book, practice yoga nidra, have a dance party, have a magnesium bath, get creative and draw/paint/colour, board games, connect with friends, play with your pet!⁣

TODAY FINALLY, Hallelujah. The sun is out and the temp is mild. I spent 1 hr walking in the sun and my mood improved by 3000% ☀️ ⁣

Just REMEMBER it’s all temporary and will pass (**if experiencing depression, please see a medical professional)⁣

If I had to start my perimenopause journey again, these are the 5 things I would start with ⬇️⁣

1️⃣ STRESS is the #1 s*x hormone killer. Perimenopausal women are in the perfect “stress storm” and as result are less resilient to the chaos in this stage of life. ➡️ Create a CALM Routine by adding activities THROUGHOUT the day to manage your stress such as breath-work, walking, journaling, exercise, vagus nerve stimulation and DO SOMETHING YOU LOVE DAILY!⁣

2️⃣Sleep is crucial, it allows the body to repair itself and staying up to binge on Netflix every night is not okay. ➡️Be part of the Perimenopause Cool Kids Club and get a minimum 8-9hours/night. Make sure you have a consistent sleep routine too!⁣

3️⃣ Sunlight is powerful! Resets your inner clock (circadian rhythm) for better sleep, enables Vitamin D production which is needed for hormones, improves mood, and affects hormone that control appetite regulation and metabolism. ⁣
➡️Daily sun between 8-10 or 1-3, make this non negotiable!⁣

4️⃣Your gut and liver health is essential for hormone balance. Your gut aids in hormone and neurotransmitter production and regulation, absorbs essential nutrients, and plays a key role in your immune system. Your liver is responsible for multiple functions including metabolism (activate and deactivate) of a variety of hormones. ➡️ support your gut and liver with the right nutrients, supplements and lifestyle habits for optimal function.⁣

5️⃣ Work with a Perimenopause Coach to save you time and money! Mainstream health care got me no where! WHEN YOU HAVE SICK KIDS AND TOO MUCH TO DO!

This is my current view..my boys were both sick a few days last week but got better over the weekend and now sick again! 🤒

Which means NOW I finally have my 1st flu of the season. JOY!

What’s a perimenopausal
mama to do?

FOLLOW THESE STEPS👇🏼
1. Make your favourite warm beverage (Throat Coat Tea for me)☕️
2. Find a cozy hoodie or sweater and wear over pyjamas + fluffy socks 🧦
3. Find nearest couch and SIT YOUR ASS DOWN!
4. Find kid friendly show or movie.
5. Have a Sick, Sneezy Cuddle Puddle!

In the past, I would push myself even when I was sick. Clean the house, cook, go to the gym, run errands…

💭 My thought was, moms have to be ON 24/7
and if I don’t do it, who will?

Perimenopause has taught me to be more compassionate and gracious to myself and some days that means DOING A WHOLE LOT OF NOTHING!

I NOW ask for help or delay what needs to be done to a better time. ⏰

Racing around every day, sick or not DOES NOT serve this phase of life, it actually makes it worse by boosting stress, cortisol and makes your symptoms worse! 🔝

Who can relate to this? I once lost my keys in my fridge.

I don’t know about you but when I’m tired I get a little brain fog and forgetful!

It’s been a difficult week, to busy, less sleep, helping out a friend with her son who’s husband is in hospital, hockey tournament. The usual things women do to overextend themselves!

I laugh but this is my hormones telling me to stop 🛑

In the past I wouldn’t listen but now I pay close attention. Life will always happen but how quickly you get back to baseline and feeling good is what matters!

I get it; life can throw curveballs, and during this transitional phase we tend to be less resilient to stressors and symptoms can also be a factor, But guess what? You're still here, rocking it despite the chaos. 🌈⁣⁣⁣⁣
