runninginjuryclinic.com World leaders in 3D gait analysis We are the world leaders in 3D gait analysis. The goal of the Running Injury Clinic is to educate and develop injury prevention and rehabilitation programs for all runners through world-class research and clinical practice.
Using our state-of-the-art motion capture technology (www.3dgaitanalysis.com), we analyze the mechanical patterns of how people walk and run (their gait patterns) and determine the root cause of their injury. Our Clinic is located in Glenmore Landing in SW Calgary and we operate as both a public resource and a world-class research laboratory. Our team consists of a group of many diverse individuals who are certified health professionals and/or researchers. Thus, our ability to integrate clinical questions and find research-based solutions is tremendous. We constantly improve our clinical practice through our ongoing research studies. This paradigm allows us to provide the most sophisticated methods to assess your injury and understand how your gait mechanics are related to injury prevention and treatment. The Director of the Clinic is Dr. Reed Ferber. Dr. Ferber is a board certified athletic therapist and holds a Ph.D. in sports medicine and gait biomechanics from the University of Oregon. He has completed post-doctoral research fellowships at the University of Delaware and the University of Calgary and specializes in the research and clinical treatment of lower extremity injuries. He is an Assistant Professor in the Faculties of Kinesiology and Nursing at the University of Calgary and he is also a Population Health Investigator through the Alberta Heritage Foundation for Medical Research (www.ahfmr.ab.ca).

Some excellent research showing that running is, in fact, very good for your knees. They measured a biomarker called COMP, which generally accumulates in diseased knees and is often used as a marker of arthritis. This study showed a shift in their COMP levels and that a 30 minute run "squeezed" this compound out of the knee joint and into general circulation. Further evidence of the many benefits of running.

Our most recent research has been published investigating pain function and strength differences between males and females with patellofemoral pain (PFP). We conclude that clinicians should consider subgroups: males benefit from hip extensor and external rotator exercise and females benefit from hip extensor exercise.
