Had an amazing weekend in San Diego for the Pacific Symposium with .courtk

One very interesting concept I learned about was facial diagnosis according to Chinese medicine.

Different areas of the face correspond to different organ systems and lines and different colours can mean certain imbalances in those organs or the emotions that those organs relate to.

This is why I love acupuncture and Chinese medicine, it offers so many ways to peer into someone’s health and life and offers many ways to help one get better 💕

Tips for Fall 🍁

The fall welcomes the Metal Element in Chinese Medicine.

It is related to the Lungs and Large Intestines.

1. Wear a scarf! Protecting your neck from external wind and pathogens can help keep you healthy.

2. Eat more pears 🍐 Pears are good for the lungs. White foods in general can support your lungs.

3. Use this time to let go of things you do not need. Just like the trees are letting go of their leaves, we need to also let go. This is a natural time to grieve and let go of things in our past as well as physical items that do not serve us anymore.

4. Metal is also about inspiration, finding things that inspire you like a new book or class would be great.

5. Transition to more warming foods and spices 🫕

6. Take deep breaths, practice deep breathing or go for nice walks in the crisp air!

I have been working a bit from home for awhile now but haven’t really made it official.

I decided to take the plunge and set up with Jane App and have online booking with all the things that Jane can offer.

Along with Acupuncture, herbal medicine, cupping and moxa, I also offer micro-needling at home if anyone is interested in this.

Beautiful and challenging hike at Tent Ridge with Courteney Kenning.courtk

What a day! There are two ways to do the hike, counter clockwise or clockwise, they suggest clockwise but we accidentally went the wrong way.

It was actually quite scary at a couple points in the hike, having to get down quite steep spots and trying not to look down and get freaked out.

And then sliding on loose rocks thinking it would be an easier way to descend, it wasn’t. It was a good lesson in keeping calm and deep breathing, and supporting each other through the scary parts.

We can definitely do hard things 😁
And the views were amazing!!

Favourite Herbs for Labour Prep

🌿Nettles infusion is such a supportive herb for pregnancy, it builds blood and support the kidneys and has a good source of many minerals such as calcium, magnesium and vitamin K.

Drinking more in the last month can help build available hemoglobin and vitamin k which can help prevent postpartum hemorrhage.

🌿Red Raspberry Leaf is another tea/infusion that helps build blood and can tonify the uterus. It also is high in bioavailable minerals. It can help reduce pain in labour, after birth and helps postpartum recovery.

Some midwives say to only use in the third trimester, my teacher Susun W**d always said it was safe all through the pregnancy, but do what feels right for you.

🌿 Skullcap is a great herb for all kinds of tension problems like anxiety and nervousness and one or two cups a day can help with high blood pressure.

🌿Slippery Elm can be used for heartburn, mix the powder in a bit of honey to make a ball. It soothes the stomach and helps absorb intestinal gas. You can even use Slippery Elm throat lozenges from a health store for convenience.

🌿Peppermint and spearmint teas are refreshing and energizing and can lift the spirits.

🌿Herbs to help initiate labour are Black and Blue Cohosh. Black cohosh tincture can help to ripen the cervix and Blue Cohosh can help to start labour. Midwives will often use these in homeopathic forms.

These are just a few wonderful herbal allies that can help support you in pregnancy.

Best Hikes within Calgary city limits and just outside!

There are quite a few beautiful hikes or walks in Calgary or just outside the city limits that I love. Walking in nature soothes a lot for anyone I know who does it!

Here’s a few places I recommend:

🐾Nose hill park is a beautiful park that has many different paths to walk and some off leash areas for dogs. There are many wild flowers to see and I can spend a good couple hours exploring.

🌸The Twelve Mile Coulee is a great trail to explore, I can walk from Tuscany all the way to Bowness park and then jump in the river :)

🌲Douglas Fir Trail is another popular Calgary trail to explore and an amazing place to walk or run in Calgary.

🌼Glenbow Ranch Provincial Park is just outside Calgary near Cochrane and is a beautiful place to walk with different paths to take, through rolling hills and some cattle farms.

🌿Big Hill Springs is also just outside Calgary near Cochrane and has many falls and springs along the trail.

🌳Fish creek park is an amazing pathway system in Calgary to explore on foot or bike.

Calgary has so many amazing paths to explore and green spaces to relax in, which ones am I missing?!

🌸 Summer can be a good time to clarify our vision for the second half of the year so thought I would do it for my Instagram!

My vision for my Instagram is to connect with couples and individuals struggling with fertility. I want to give them hope and guidance to be able to have a healthy pregnancy and baby.

I also work with women who are pregnant and then during their postpartum period. I love seeing them transition through all of this. 🤍

Each phase is so unique and needs so much support. My hope is to offer guidance and helpful information for all of these important times in their lives.

⏩️⏩️It was definitely not a natural thing for me to put myself out there on social media, but I have really grown to love engaging with all of you here.

I love that it offers another place to connect and reach people where you can ask questions and let me know how things are going.

🥰 I am surprised at how positive and safe it feels, in a world where social media can also be negative.

Thank you for following me and trusting me, if there is any kind of content you would like to see, let me know!💓

I have been using cordyceps for a few months now. I use a powder and add it to my tea or coffee. Cordyceps is s fungus or mushroom and has been used in Chinese Medicine for a long time.

Cordyceps can increase ATP which delivers energy to the muscles, so it can help during exercise.

Cordyceps can help with fatigue and sexual function and to improve memory. It is considered an anti-aging herb full of antioxidants.

It may have anti-tumour effects and also can help control Type 2 Diabetes. Cordyceps may help keep blood sugar levels within a normal range by mimicking the action of insulin.

Cordyceps may also benefit heart health by helping prevent arrhythmias and lowering levels of triglycerides and bad LDL.

Lasso Trail

I am loving all the walking paths around my new community of Tuscany! I discovered this beautiful trail so close to where I live, it’s almost like being out in the mountains 💕

☀️Summer goals!

I want to go on a few hikes, and bring my kids along with me.

🌸Connection is my word for this summer.

I want to swim in a lake, even if it’s a freezing cold one! I want to get those Vitamin D levels up without supplementing, so lots of sunshine ☀️

I need to relax my nervous system and be present. Lots of grass and bare feet 🦶

Possibly take in a day at Calgary Folk Fest 🎶

Less Netflix, more podcasts and meditation.
Eat fresh food and lots of berries 🫐
Experiment with making different summer elixirs with fresh herbs, I will keep you posted about those!

⏩️⏩️How about you?? Share your goals for the summer 🌼
