Our friend Jayce has a message for every player, family, coach, team, sponsor and supporter who made Hockey Kids Helping Kids such a huge success.

Through their fundraising efforts, teams raised more than $70,000! That dedication made an even bigger impact thanks to the incredible generosity of Keith and Sharon Boonstra who stepped forward to donate an additional $50,000 for a grand total of $120,000!

These donations will support vital technology, programs and research that give kids the best possible chance to heal, grow and dream.

This Child Life Month, we’re celebrating the people who help kids be kids — even in hospital. 💙

Kean arrived at the Alberta Children’s Hospital with serious burns that required skin grafts and nearly a month in hospital. For an active kid who loves hockey and lacrosse, it was a frightening time.

Child Life Specialists helped make those days brighter. They brought board games and video games to his room, encouraged creativity through art therapy and organized Pet Therapy nights that Kean loved.

“I couldn’t move for a week, but the hospital made it great,” Kean says. “When I was on bed rest, I got to pet all the doggies.” 🐾

To the incredible Child Life Specialists at the Alberta Children’s Hospital — and at children’s hospitals everywhere — thank you for caring for kids’ spirits as well as their healing.
