🌈 Happy Pride Month, Calgary!

Did you know that Pride started as a riot before it became a celebration?

Its roots trace back to the Stonewall riots, where q***r communities (largely led by Black q***r and trans activists) fought back against police raids and discrimination.

While Pride is widely known as a time for celebration (and it absolutely is), its history runs much deeper. It’s important to acknowledge how Pride began and why these conversations still matter today.

So while we encourage everyone to celebrate Pride, have fun, and be proud of who you are, we also encourage you to keep learning — whether that means educating yourself on q***r history, challenging misconceptions, or helping create spaces where people feel genuinely safe and welcomed.

If Pride Month feels overwhelming, complicated, or emotionally heavy, you're not alone.

This Alberta Seniors’ Week, we’re celebrating the seniors who help shape our community!

Mental health matters at every age, and small things like staying connected, maintaining routines, spending time doing things you enjoy, and asking for help when you need it can have a real impact on your overall well-being.

Want to get involved? Hear stories from local seniors and explore the different events happening throughout the city: https://www.calgary.ca/events/seniors-week.html

One of the biggest misconceptions about counselling?
That a counsellor is there to “fix” you or tell you what to do.

In reality, counselling is collaborative. It’s about having someone beside you to help you better understand yourself, build coping tools, and work toward meaningful change.

In our latest episode of Living Fully, we talk about what counselling is really like, and answer common questions people may feel nervous to ask.
