What to expect from Nutrition Therapy
I realised many of you who have never seen a nutritionist won’t know what to expect...So let me explain.
As a nutrition scientist, my focus of nutrition therapy is based on research and evidence based practice. This application of nutrition science is used for the optimisation of health, management of conditions and disease, and increase in sport performance through basically...food. Unlike dieting, nutriton is never a one size fits all approach, because lets be realistic, we are all completely different. Our physiology, careers, stressors, home life, genetics, lifestyle, behaviours, among many other factors, all change our unique nutrition needs. So what I recommend to one person is likely to be completely different to the next, however, its always long term. This is not a quick fix so be prepared to be patient, but be in it for the long haul. So where do we begin?
Prior to the first consultation, I will send you some forms to fill out as well as a 3 day food diary. These will need to be returned at least 3 days prior to your first consultation. Much of the work as a nutritionist is done prior to the first appointment so time is required for this. Your first consultation will last about 1 - 1.5 hours and aside from taking a few necessary measurements, is a bit more in depth investigation into your daily life, goals, motivations, behaviours, and nutrition needs. Together we will come up with a plan which best suits you and your lifestyle, and that you feel confident with. Some of the things you could expect to receive are a summary of nutrition, lifestyle, and supplement recommendations, detailed nutrition plans, recipes, or food lists. Follow up appointments are usually recommended in about 4-6 weeks time depending on the person, and are usually about 30-45 minutes.
I am always here for any further questions. If you are unsure whether a nutritionist could help you, please get in touch for a free phone consultation.
