‘Slow down little heart’… sometimes we want to slow down time with our babies, sometimes we want to speed up the difficult times, sometimes we think of labour and want it to be done quickly, but what if you could shift your mindset and learn tools, tips to work through the birth, would you be interested? You can learn techniques for a calmer, more comfortable birth, to learn how to slow down the beautiful moments and to work through the challenging ones, with confidence and tools. HypnoBirthing is not about birthing a certain way or a certain place, but about being empowered, informed and equipped, bringing in compassion, support and tools.

I will be offering one last HypnoBirthing group, starting June 11th, before I take a break for the summer. Please see my website for details of the upcoming group, as I will be offering a unique class schedule that allows for weeknight and weekend classes, with a break in between, to further practice the techniques and consolidate the information learned. Mahalo for reading and I hope you have a wonderful rest of your week!

Happy Aloha Friday!
I’m happy to share I have a couple spots in my upcoming HypnoBirthing group. This awesome six session group is going to help moms and couples to be informed and educated about birth, as well as teach them skills and techniques (for calm, comfort, relaxation and the ability to handle the unknown/unplanned), not only for birth, but pregnancy and post-partum well. Most moms/couples have insurance plans that will cover most if not all of the course. Mahalo for reading and sharing and I hope you have a wonderful upcoming weekend!

Happy Spring! I so look forward to this season, well when the snow isn’t coming down and the flowers come through! We women go through many seasons in our life and I’m blessed to be able to support women and their partner’s as they prepare for birth with tools, knowledge and skills to be informed and flow with the birth they have.
I had the privilege to work with another wonderful group of couples as they soon begin the next season of their lives! I also have a new HypnoBirthing group starting up April 29th! My services, from counselling and clinical hypnosis, to HypnoBirthing and HypnoMothering are eligible for insurance reimbursement.
Mahalo for reading, for being here and for showing up! Birthing and motherhood can be a wonderful, wild, tiring and heart growing experience; it’s nice to know we can find/create a village as we work through it. : )

I’m counting my blessings to have the opportunity to work with such wonderful couples! With everything going on in the world, it’s reassuring and heartwarming to see couples take time out of their very busy schedules to meet once a week, for about six weeks, to bond with baby before their born, to be with each other, and to do what they can to help the baby’s birthing experience be as positive and supported as possible, while learning how to empower themselves for whatever birth they have. I love what I do and am looking forward to starting with a new group of couples next week! Limited spots available; registrations can be sent to mwong@ohanatherapy.com.

Thank you Liz and Mike .Szak for sharing your birth story! You all rocked it, I'm so happy for you all!!!

I'm truly blessed and grateful to do what I do and work with such amazing couples. Please see Liz's awesome birth story below.

“Hi Monica
I hope you are doing so well! I wanted to reach out because I wanted you to know that I had the most INCREDIBLE birth experience and it's all because of you and Hypnobirthing. Theo was born on August 14 …that morning at 6am I lost my mucus plug. I started having contractions shortly after, but nothing crazy. I started listening to calming music and went into my breathing. My visualization was lovely. I was in a beautiful beach cove and it was a warm, cloudy windy day. Every surge was a wave that I let crash into me. Some waves big, some waves small. Anytime I resisted, the wave would get stronger, longer, and heavier. Anytime I let the wave just crash into me, it would stop at my feet and swirl, then go back into the sea. I felt every wave hit my body; but it wasn't painful. I allowed it to wash over me and watch the swirls by my feet.

Mike had a meeting that morning, and when he came to check on me at 10am, my contractions were getting closer. The app kept telling us 🚨GO TO HOSPITAL🚨 We called our Midwife, Cher, and she said okay, I don't think it's time yet. I will come over after my clinic today and check you. Honestly, I don't think she believed that contractions were that quick haha. Finally Cher showed up at 2pm. She checked me. I was 7cm dilated!
At that point, she said that we should probably go to the hospital. But I was feeling really good. I was on a ball and had my tens machine hooked up. I was getting a little more uncomfortable, but not wanting to get in the car and leave.

Cher could tell I wanted to have a home birth, but Mike was not convinced. We made a compromise - I was going to get into the tub for another hour, to see how things progressed. I would decide after if we were going to leave. The second I got into the water, my body felt completely relieved. However, surges started again, but much stronger. Mike said it was like I was possessed. My eyes were rolling back, I was arching my back, definitely I was in discomfort. I couldn't focus on my visualization as clearly as before, so I really focused on my breath and speaking to my baby. Telling him that we are doing this together, that he was being so good, and it's okay to come soon. I was speaking out loud to him and stroking my tummy towards my pelvis. Mike and Cher were doing pressure points on my hands and neck.

After about an hour, Cher wanted to check me again. 10 cms dilated. Looks like we were having this baby at home! I told Mike and Cher - IM NOT LEAVING, I'm not getting into a car! Mike and Cher ...created a little area so I'd be comfortable and could start pushing... I was there for about 1.5 hours. I stalled a bit, I was so tired!

I switched positions so many times…. My water hadn't broken yet, he was still in his sac! Cher asked if she could break my water, and I said, let's wait a bit.
Sure enough 5 mins later, my water broke during a strong surge and me pushing! Poor Cher was in the splash zone 🙈 I got her pretty good.
Finally, he was ready to come into the world at 6:50pm. 4.5 hours from start to finish! 7 lbs 2oz. Crying IMMEDIATELY the second he came out.

Mike caught him (with help) and cut the umbilical cord. Honestly, he was so incredible during the process, I'm so proud of our teamwork and thankful for his support, love and trust in me.The most impressive part? Not one drop of blood on our WHITE SHEETS! Honestly, I attribute my beautiful birth story to our classes and all the work we did prior. There is NO way I could have had an unmedicated home birth without doing Hypnobirthing. I was in such a calm and relaxed state for almost the entire process.

I'm so grateful to you and everything you taught us!”

‘This is how we do it!’ I was lucky enough to do a home visit with Lindsey and Olivia, and hear how they rocked their birth! I love Lindsey’s birth story (posted earlier); it’s an amazing example of an empowered birth, of what it’s like to have a informed supportive partner, and of how to handle the unexpected, without losing sight of what’s important. I had so much fun hanging out, laughing and getting lots of snuggles during our home visit! Olivia was the perfect host and Lindsey, I so appreciate your humour and candidness, not only during our home visit but during the HypnoBirthing group as well. If you’re expecting and like Lindsey, want to learn empowering tools for birth (for you And your partner), email mwong@ohanatherapy.com I have a new group starting January 7th, with limited spots available, register today to hold your spot!

Style, grace, supportive, this group was so much fun to work with! Although it’s sad to say farewell to my couples, it brings some solace knowing we have the opportunity to meet up again and that I’ll be starting up a new group next month, my last HypnoBirthing group of the year. My groups are kept intentionally kept small so we can get to know each other, create a supportive safe environment, have lots of times for questions and to review techniques. This group is for expected moms and couples looking for information not just on what is birth and how does it work, but how can they can move through birth with more calm and confidence. How can they learn to breathe through surges and transform their experience? How can their partner be involved in a supportive and helpful way? We go over all of this and more in this five week class. I’m looking forward to starting soon. Limited spots available; registrations can be sent to mwong@ohanatherapy.com.

One of my favourite things to do, post HypnoBirthing groups, was to visit with the new family after the birth! Covid put a stop to that, but I’m so happy to have restarted them. I recently got to see Eve and baby Rose is person! Snuggles with babies and a check-in with my amazing mom/new parents, are the best, thank you for letting me visit Eve! Interested in rocking and working through your birth with confidence and tools? I have one last HypnoBirthing group before the end of the year, starting next month.  Spots are limited, register today at mwong@ohanatherapy.com or ohanatherapy.com. Mahalo! affirmations

Labour Day, what a great day to share one of my client’s labour stories and my upcoming HypnoBirthing Group! Eve’s birth story is an awesome example of why it’s helpful to have many different techniques at your fingertips and how conditioning can be tremendously helpful! Please read her awesome birth story below and anyone interested in registering for the upcoming group can do so by emailing mwong@ohanatherapy.com. Mahalo! Eve’s Birth Story: Hypnobirthing absolutely saved my life. At 4 cm I was struggling incredibly - couldn’t even breathe properly through the contractions even with the breathing techniques I’d been practicing. Turns out it was largely to do with fear, because I started to play the hypnobirthing affirmations and if calmed me down so much. Mum [who’s seen many births as a midwife] couldn’t even tell if I was having a contraction because I had my eyes closed and was just breathing calmly through it all. She was amazed at how my mindset just changed instantly. She said it was like someone flipped a switch. Genuinely don’t know if my home birth would have been a possibility in the end if it weren’t for your amazing hypnobirthing course.

Thank you so much for everything. Eve

Where Positive Change Happen

My name is Monica Wong; I hail from my childhood home in Oahu, Hawaii. I graduated in 2009 with my Masters in Clinical Social Work, offering counseling and facilitating and running groups at a not-for-profit, which allowed me to help people as young as 4 and as old as 84. I loved the opportunity to help others and started my own private practice 7 years ago offering counselling, hypnotherapy and childbirth education.

I offer guidance, warmth, support, directness and techniques for my clients; techniques you can use to create long lasting deep change that will impact your life today and everyday, as long as you desire. The deep long lasting change I attribute in a large part to hypnotherapy. Out of all the years and techniques I’ve learned, hypnosis has created the change my clients seek, faster and at a deeper level. In my practice I offer counselling and hypnothearpy for mental health, fertility and post-partum, as well as childbirth education and post-partum workshops (HypnoBirthing and HypnoMothering).

I became a HypnoBirthing childbirth education after a very challenging first birth. I knew birth could be positive and different from what I experienced, so I decided to learn how to create a positive birth and became a childbirth HypnoBirthing educator in 2011. My second birth was life changing and although it was over 20 hours, I was pumped and felt great about my birth. My third birth was even more amazing and my love and passion for sharing HypnoBirthing has only grown, not only because of my own experiences but because of the experiences my couples have.

After such positive birth experiences with hypnosis, I decided to dedicate myself to learning as much as I could about the clinical application of hypnosis. I have since taken over 200+ hours of clinical hypnosis training, helped countless clients and couples and have become a board member for the Canadian Federation of Clinical Hypnosis, helping run conferences, workshops, as well as teaching.
