From Armando Contreras, President & CEO of United Cerebral Palsy

UCP remains dedicated to supporting individuals with autism and believes that every member of the disability community deserves dignity and respect. We recognize the valid concerns raised about how discussing autism using language around ‘curing’ can carry unintended and hurtful implications.

This can do real harm to progress on inclusion, awareness, and access to services, which organizations like UCP have worked for decades to advance.

At the same time, we respect that each individual and family’s medical and personal journey is unique. UCP stands ready to support people with autism and their families, regardless of the personal decisions they make about treatment or care.
