WHY MAINTAINING WEIGHT LOSS IS THE HARD PART?

Have we you ever thought it's pretty funny (ironical) that diet books begin with this assumption, "All diets fail!"

My 13 year experiences and teaching from Dr. Tran, Ideal Protein's founder, is exactly opposite, "All diets work"

The disconnect?

Within 3 years, 95%+ regain their weight and more. That's not a failure of the diet, that's the challenge of keeping it off- maintenance.

And that's a totally different beast.

Why is maintaining so hard? The short answer...we can't go where we don't know.

SELF-AWARENESS…an honest look in the mirror with NO judgement or criticism.

Don’t leave home without it AND definitely don’t start any weight loss program without both self-awareness and self-awesomeness.

Consider answering the following 4 questions about yourself:

1. Can I do it?
2. Do I want to do it?
3. Can I do it without help?
4. Do I need accountability?

These are all self-awareness evaluations, answering this one BIG question, “Am I ready?

Dr. Tran compassionately says, “Dieting is hard. It takes courage to lose weight. Because it means agreeing to sacrifice deeply rooted habits”

Ain’t that the truth!
And please notice that one word- agreeing.

When you start your weight loss journey, look in the mirror, and say in your out loud voice, “I’m ready and I understand what I’m really doing is making an agreement to give up (sacrifice) deeply rooted habits.

Here’s a couple of self-awareness tips:

1. Pick a readiness number between 1 and 10. The only rule is, you can’t pick 7. If you’re a 6 or less, you’re not ready; 8 or above, go for it.

2. Take a piece of paper and write down your personal list of those 2 to 3 habits your agreeing to change for good.

3. Bonus tip: share # 1 & 2 with your coach or accountablility partner when you get started.

What if weight loss wasn’t about staying motivated? Or even mustering up a huge commitment ?

What if it was less about mindset and willpower and all about courage .

It takes courage to go on a diet. And courage is a heart power. It takes heart to lose weight.

It’s like standing on a lake dock on an early, brisk Fall morning with nothing on, but a swimsuit and a towel around your neck. It’s that moment just before running and jumping in.

That’s courage! No wonder so many wait to start a diet protocol and then when they do, wish they would have done it sooner.

What If - Why Not Wednesday (COACHBOB). Staying motivated…

Ok…time for me, CoachBob, to do a health/weight loss update. Apologies in advance for this post being all about me.

And also before sharing, I sometimes feel I need to apologise for feeling so good.

- My mindset is optimistic.
- I have little to no anxiety, fear or guilt.
- My mind and heart are quiet and at peace.
- My energy is excellent.
- My sleep decent.
- My appetite satisfied with no cravings.

These last 4 weeks of taking control of my health and weight loss has been a time of remembering (a gift in itself) and reflection. I remember just why I love the Ideal Protein protocol and products.

How a single page, 8 ½ by 11, method always works and just makes sense. Simple plan for a simple guy, “eat the sheet!”

And bonus, my body shed 15.2 lbs of fat and retained my muscle mass. Damn good for a 70 year old dude.

Your heart has incredible powers and intelligence. It is always communicating, leading, guiding us, mostly quietly, beneath surface.

And sure, life and stuff can obstruct our noticing it’s messages

But, it is always there. Next time I want to share one of the most basic of heart powers and impulses- “the want to”

What is that want to? What does want to feel like? Where does it come from? Is there a difference between need, want, and desire? Thoughts?

The obvious health priorities. Everyone understands it is really only 2 things. Always has been always will be.

Eating healthy and movement(exercise).

Gotta say eating better feels so much better and I’ve got lots to learn and more to go on the nutrition side, but exercise doesn’t come naturally to me. I can sense, feel, that I’m almost there to really commit to it.

I’m not going all in until I’m all in. Hmmm?

My priority? What’s yours? I’m guessing 80% of people are refocusing on some health goal. On a macro view, things like fitness, exercise, diet and nutrition, weight loss, sleep and mental health.

My nutrition(read eating habits) in December we’re out of control. So for me, my health priority initially was to lose 15 lbs. I’m 10 down over last 14 days, but that’s not the main thing.

My priority has completely shifted…and it needed to.

I’ve been renovating our Master bathroom, down in my knees, under the double sinks, up and down stairs. And I had an epiphany. Actually, my body was whispering a message.

“You need to focus on your health, not just your weight. You need to make health your priority.”

Shifts happen.

And it’s got me thinking. How about you? What are you priorities? What are you focusing on this year?

Tune up week 2…(CoachBob). Failure is not an option. Weight loss, by which I mean changing eating behaviours, is hard. That week one flush of water, glycogen and fat is expected and exciting. Now comes the reps and process.

Really it’s changing habits, you know the hard part. That’s the journey!

The French origin of the word journey means “the distance travelled in one day” Perfect!

One day at a time. One meal at a time! One glass of water at a time. One supplement at a time.

The process, not the goal. The mission- never stop pursuing health and eating healthy vs. just the number on the scale.

- What if I really needed a tune up after Christmas?
- What if I really was looking forward to it?
-What if I felt I hadn’t eaten “hungry” since early December?
- What if I restarted 9 days ago?
- What if I lost 7 lbs already?
- What if the bloated, very tight gut was gone?

💡WHAT IF / WHY NOT WEDNESDAYS 💡

‘Hump’ day has been officially cancelled at Ideal Protein Weight Control Clinic. No longer are Wednesdays ‘I hope I can make to "TGIF" day.’ Join me each WIWNW (What if. Why not. Wednesday), to explore clients’ whys for wanting to lose weight. Conversations, videos, photos to share why the why is so helpful in each person’s weight loss journey.

Wednesdays are for dreamers and creators, who ask what if? And why not?

What if we chose not to react, rather to create?

Notice. The only difference between these two words- Creator and Reactor? Is where you place the letter "c." What if reacting became our springboard for creating? Why not?

Sure, dieting is hard. Work is hard. Marriage is hard. Parenting is hard. Winter is hard. Golf is hard. Life is hard. Creators embrace the challenge, do the work and create; reactors resist.

What if we create? What if we take response-ability and become accountable for our choices? Our decisions? What might be different? What might change?

2023 is just around the corner. Why not create new choices? New habits? New behaviors? New lifestyles? Why not do the work?

Who we are

At Ideal Protein Weight Control Clinic, our specialty is coaching the Ideal Protein Weight Loss protocol. We were the first to bring Ideal Protein to Calgary on May 1, 2009, and that is and always has been, our singular focus. We are able to offer all our clients experienced coaching, support and accountability while on their weight loss journey. Ongoing training and corporate support over the years have added greatly to our everyday experiences.

Not only are we known for our experience, but also our compassion, acceptance and “family” atmosphere. We know the struggle can be real so our mandate is to walk alongside our clients on their journey - which includes their successes and struggles.

Community is also important. Throughout the year we offer various events to our clients and their friends. Clothing exchanges, paint parties and exercise classes to name a few. We know weight loss involves the whole person, therefore we also have access to a Licensed Clinical Counselor who provides support to our clientele and offers free Workshops around Emotional Eating and dieting challenges.
