Well, Gang, this is a long overdue message to all of you who have taken the time to stop in and read our comments over the years. Patricia and I have reached the age of retirement. Patricia is keeping her hand in the audiological field by working part-time. I, on the other hand, have exited the work-a-day world completely, and now enjoy whiling away my time doing whatever strikes me. Since we have no kids to pass the business to, Audia Hearing Care Centre has been sold. The office and client records have passed to Connect Hearing, who we hope will continue to do a good job in serving all the people who were so good to Patricia and me over the years, the very people who's loyalty and patronage have allowed us to take this next step in our life's journey.

All the best to all of you who have stopped in to our page over the years. We wish you good health, good hearing and good lives.

Patricia & Garth Sandercock
Former owners of Audia Hearing Care Centre.

How often do you find other people think as soon as you get hearing aids, you should be hearing them fine. "Mom, do you have your hearing aids in?" Sound familiar? Well, you're not alone. Adding hearing aids is certainly the right step for people with hearing loss, but not everyone takes to them immediately. If you live alone and don't always wear your hearing aids, getting out to volunteer can be a very good way to practice listening to others through them and getting used to the new sounds of the world. Have a read of this article:

If you are new to hearing loss, it can be hard to understand and adjust to at first. It may feel like you are the only one in that situation. The good news is you are not alone and volunteering is a way to pull you out of your isolation through helping others.

If you thought hearing aids would slow you down or keep you from doing the things you love, here' s some inspiration from Jaime Delpizzo.

I am happiest outside of my comfort zone and in new environments. Even with bi-lateral, severe-to-profound hearing loss, I’m following my passions to travel and do extreme sports.

Little known fact: music promotes the growth of dendritic connections in the brain. Research shows musicians have the highest populations of dendritic connections of all of us. But hearing loss can make listening to music unpleasant, robbing us of the fullness of a song by distorting different frequencies. So how can we get back to enjoying this very beautiful and medicinally benefitial element in our lives? This article by Stu Nunnery, a hearing loss person himself, has some thoughts...

Many of us with hearing loss have stopped listening to music because it does not sound how we remember it. Nevertheless, more musicians, singers and music lovers with hearing loss are coping and finding their way back to music.
