March is Myeloma Action Month

March is Myeloma Action Month, but additionally this year, SAMPS is participating with Myeloma Canada in the International Landmark Lighting Campaign. This is an international event and so has great exposure for Myeloma patients.

SAMPS arranged to have the Calgary Tower lit on Saturday March 7th from dusk to 2 am. The Colors are burgundy and gold - which are representative colors for SAMPS.

As mentioned in the SAMPS Newsletter, Myeloma Canada is doing 2 campaigns for the Myeloma Action Month. We have added the information below as a reminder.

SAMPS Membership Director

Global landmark lightings
As part of the international collaboration with GMAN, landmarks around the world will be lit in red during the month of March. Myeloma organizations in Australia, Canada, South Korea and beyond are participating. Thanks to the incredible volunteers I have been working with over the past few months, we already have approved landmark lightings in nine provinces and one territory, with one more to come.

If a landmark lighting is happening in your area, here are some things you can do:
Take photos of the landmark illuminated in red. If you’re comfortable, take a photo of yourself, your family, or your group with the lit landmark.

Please send your photos to Chantel Wicks at cwicks@myeloma.ca so we can share and celebrate them on social media.

A national social media campaign
Throughout March, Myeloma Canada will be encouraging people across the country to do something creative with the colour RED, take a photo, and share it on social media using the hashtags and . Given Canada’s size and diversity, and Myeloma Canada’s strong grassroots foundation, we want this campaign to reflect voices from communities across our beautiful country.

If you’re interested in taking part in the social media campaign, here are the simple steps:
Wear something RED
Print the “Making Myeloma Matter in [CITY]” sign and fill in the blank:https://myeloma.ca/wp.../uploads/2026/02/MAM-Sign-EN.pdf
Take a photo with your sign
Share your photo on social media using and
Thank you, everyone. We look forward to a meaningful and inspiring Myeloma Action Month together!

Mix and Mingle

We are resuming our social events with the next Mix and Mingle happening on Saturday, March 14, 2026. As indicated in our previous newsletters, we are trying to host an event in the 4 quadrants of the city so everyone has the opportunity to attend one; at least that was my hopes when we started hosting these events a few years ago. Of course, it is also depends on the libraries meeting rooms availability - and this can be challenging! These can only be booked one month in advance and they are in very high demand because the City of Calgary is offering them - free of charge - to any groups, charities, associations who can access a room for a meeting as short as half hour to a block of many hours.

Mark your calendar:

Bowness Library at 6532 Bowness Road NW
March 14th, 2026
From 10:30 am to 12:30 pm

Light refreshments will be offered

These low key gatherings are meant for you, your family, friends and volunteers. It is a place where everyone can come together in a very casual setting supporting each other sharing their stories away from doctors and hospitals' visits. Our community is certainly growing with each Mix and Mingle; we are looking forward to seeing you.

Please rsvp on the link provided below.

Deadline to register is Friday March 13th at noon.
