Seeing corn in your stool? 💩🌽 Here’s why!
Do you enjoy corn as much as I do? This time of year, we’re adding fresh corn to our grocery carts 🛒. BUT is it ok for your digestion?
🌽Corn is full of fibre, which is important for healthy digestion, so I’m a big fan! However, the outer casing of corn kernels (called the pericarp) is particularly high in insoluble fibre, which is more difficult to break down during the digestive process.
🧐Is this normal? YES. There’s no need to shy away from corn unless you personally find it gives you abdominal pain, diarrhea, or other gastrointestinal symptoms.
🍿 The digestibility of corn also changes based on preparation method and serving size. For example, many people find that corn-based foods like cornstarch, corn flour, popcorn, or corn chips sit best with them compared to whole kernels of corn. It’s best to test to determine your own personal tolerance.
