Dr. Charmagne Sia Lu, ND

Throughout my life, I’ve had interactions with doctors that didn’t feel like they were listening to me, they were more interested in looking at my symptoms, than addressing my concerns. It wasn’t only with doctors either, there would be other times I wasn’t taken seriously, and I would leave feeling annoyed, disappointed, and disregarded. I would have to deal with my eczema, and the mental and physical stress it caused on my own. Interactions like this made me appreciate it when I finally found a doctor that would listen to me, and not disregard me, and I felt like I could work with them to figure out what was going on with me. I needed to find someone to see me and not just the symptoms I have. I know how important it is to be heard and to connect with your doctor that way. That’s why I strive to listen to my patients and make them feel heard and cared for. This is even more emphasized when I work with expecting families and breastfeeding mothers. Having a newborn is a very emotional and overwhelming time of life, and even though it is beautiful, there are people who struggle, at a time they are more vulnerable and need support from people who will listen to them and their concerns. Throughout my life, I have seen and interacted with so many people who have been disabled or even crippled from their daily jobs and activities to know that everyone needs a little bit of self-care. Treat your mind and body the way it deserves to be treated and follow me on a new health journey. As a Manual Osteopathic Therapist, our philosophy states that “the human body has the capability to protect, repair and regenerate itself to preserve its function”. However, sometimes it might just need a little nudge in the right direction for it to heal more effectively and efficiently. Using the different systems of the body as a whole, we can formulate a personalised treatment plan specifically to help you achieve the goals you want in your health. As a Registered Massage Therapist, I believe that every muscle in the body tells a story. It can hold emotions and energy where it’s no longer needed. And by releasing the baggage or memories of trauma in the body, it would allow you to live life to the fullest. My areas of focus include realigning the body structurally such as osteoarticulation, visceral manipulation, and soft tissue manipulation. Outside of my clinical practice, I like to live both actively and artistically. From teaching partner dancing to creating music in my home studio, I strive to keep my passions constantly growing, allowing me to enjoy every moment of my life and I hope I can do the same for you too. Credentials:
Manual Osteopathic Therapist | Manual Osteopathic College of Canada
Massage Therapist | MaKami College
Member of the Canadian Massage and Manual Osteopathic Therapists Association
Advanced Certification in Osteoarticulation, Muscle Energy Techniques, Fascial Remodelling, Cranial Sacral, Visceral Manipulation

A study in 2023 in the journal, Nutrients, talked about the role of diet and nutrition in allergic diseases - this included eczema. While they talked about a number of different nutrients, this specific macronutrient had several interactions within the body, that it was worth highlighting. Especially since it is a dietary change that can help relieve symptoms of eczema.

Now....which macro was it?

November is Eczema Awareness Month 🍃 Eczema affects up to 15–20% of Canadians at some point in their lives, with about 17% diagnosed with atopic dermatitis — the most common form. This condition often follows a relapsing-remitting pattern, meaning symptoms can flare for a time and then subside, sometimes disappearing for weeks, months, or even years. 📅

For both children and adults, eczema can be incredibly challenging. The constant itch can be overwhelming — a deep, persistent sensation that demands attention and often leads to scratching until the skin becomes raw or even bleeds. The open, irritated skin can then sting, ache, or become prone to infection, creating a painful cycle that affects not just the skin, but also sleep, confidence, and quality of life. 😩

Yet, there is hope. While there isn’t a single cure for eczema, there are many effective ways to manage it and dramatically reduce flare-ups. Identifying your unique triggers, supporting your skin barrier, keeping well-hydrated, and making small but consistent lifestyle changes can all make a real difference. ✨

If you’re feeling lost or discouraged, know that you don’t have to navigate this alone. Dr. Charmagne Sia Lu understands eczema firsthand and can help you discover what your skin needs to calm inflammation, restore balance, and achieve lasting relief — so you can feel comfortable in your own skin again. 🙏

Day 15/15

Today's the 15th and final day of the . 15 days of hopefully encouraging you to look around you and see what you are grateful for - big and small. This year my friends and I went to Japan, and it happened to be during this journey or challenge I do every year during October. But this is a practice I do daily, and I would encourage you to do the same.

It helps to build resiliency and primes your brain to look for things that give you joy - which is very different from just going about your day.

Today I'm grateful for the pause. To get a foot massage and rest. I know my feet really appreciated it.
