It’s going to be a big week behind the scenes at Aurora getting ready for the year to switch over. Can you believe we’ve caught over 460 babies this year?

We are grateful for every single one of them! Can’t wait to share some photos of our beautiful December babies when they come in!

This year has been an outlier for extraordinary birth locations. 3 births in cars by my count, a clinic birth, and an ambulance birth. What a wild ride!

As the days shorten and the nights get longer we always think about our new mamas in the community. It’s tough to navigate the holidays, family, older kids, as well as the cold and dark.

Check in with your mood, let go of expectations if you can, and reach out for help if you need it.

How did your partner support you through labour?
We know from experience how integral your partner can be in supporting you, we are here as witnesses for all of the words of encouragement, the soothing touch, the physical support.
It’s not all waiting rooms and ci**rs for partners anymore!

Birth photos capture a once in a lifetime moment, the creation of a new family, new parents, and the welcome of a new person.
We are so lucky to be able to see these moments in person and to be able to share them through social media as well. It is truly a privilege.

Quiet moments to start off a busy day.

When your midwife arrives for your home birth you are not only gaining their medical expertise for you and baby, but their emotional and often physical support as you journey to bring your baby into the world.
When all is done, you also have someone to look over you and babe, to clean up, throw in a load of laundry and do all of the paperwork that goes along with letting the world know you’ve made a whole new person.
Not a bad deal right?

Today we celebrate world prematurity day. The last couple of months have seen quite a few babes born early and some of them have quite a journey ahead of them.
Worldwide, 1 in 10 babies is born premature. The message for world prematurity day this year is “end separation” which we fully support.

I had to do the fall colours again for this baby board, it’s so cute!

Huge thank yous to all the clients who have brought their babies in during the last couple of weeks. We are so grateful for your patience in getting this board completed. It’s been a busy couple of weeks but we wish everyone a restful fall weekend with your families!

Friday Baby Feet!
It seems like we have a new set of baby feet joining us every day around here. We just passed 410 babies THIS YEAR!

We are incredibly grateful to have so many midwives under our roof and the ability to connect with so many clients.

Our students are such an important part of our work, it’s strange to think of our clinic without them.
Mount Royal’s midwifery program places 4th year student midwives with preceptors for a clerkship year, much like a residency. Where they take all they have learned in school and apply their skills to parents and babies.

We currently have 5 students paired with experienced midwives.
