The majority of people who suffer from mitochondrial diseases have symptoms that simultaneously impact several key areas of their health.
It is estimated that disorders involving mitochondrial dysfunction affect millions of Canadians. These include heart, kidney and liver disorders, diabetes, Alzheimer's, ALS, Parkinson's, autism, cancer, blindness, deafness, chronic fatigue, infertility and more.
To commemorate World Mitochondrial Disease Week (WMDW) and increase awareness for people with mitochondria, sites all over the world will be illuminated in bright green on September 20, 2025.
Be sure to check these displays out at the Calgary Tower, Reconciliation Bridge and the Telus Spark Science Centre!
Today, wear green to work, school or around your community to show your support for Mito!
