Congratulations to Dr. Lianne Tomfohr-Madsen for receiving funding from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) to lead a team focused on equity and intersectionality in sleep research.

As part of the Canadian Sleep Research Consortium, Dr. Tomfohr-Madsen and her team will study how people’s identities, location, and access to services affect their quality of sleep, and what factors protect and improve sleep.

Everyone deserves to sleep soundly, but not all people living in Canada have access to safe, secure, and restful sleeping environments.

Today, the Honourable Jean-Yves Duclos, Minister of Health, announced new funding for a national consortium working on sleep health.

Dr. Lianne Tomfohr-Madsen will lead a team at the University of British Columbia focused on equity and intersectionality in sleep research.

Our Lab

The Healthy Families Lab is located at the University of Calgary under the direction of Dr. Lianne Tomfohr-Madsen. Our laboratory focuses on identifying relationships between physical health and psychological and social variables in family settings.

Currently, our research is focused on (1) better understanding how maternal adversity is associated with infant and child health problems and (2) testing interventions in pregnancy that aim to reduce maternal stress, anxiety, and insomnia and reduce postpartum mood problems.

In a second and related line of research, we are investigating poor infant and child sleep both in typically developing populations and in children experiencing illness (e.g., pediatric cancer, TBI).
