Following a mastectomy or double mastectomy, you may choose to not replace the breast that was removed (living asymmetrical) or not to replace both breasts (living flat). Deciding whether or not to have reconstruction is a personal choice and it is important to know that choosing to live flat or asymmetrical is as valid an option as choosing to have breast reconstruction.

We've been waiting for a blood test to detect breast cancer for a long time!
Will it be a game changer? This new blood test called Syantra|DX is NOW available to women in Alberta and Ontario and will soon be rolling out across Canada. We looked at the information provided by Syantra and have some questions. The main question: how accurate is the test?

We'd be thrilled if this blood test could help detect breast cancer in women who aren't well served by current imaging or who are too young for imaging, such as women in the 20s and 30s. It's still too early to know the accuracy since the blood test's effectiveness is still being studied. However, there are preliminary results and the test is available for the public. Dense Breasts Canada will keep checking results as they become available.

Running a business is really hard.

What they don’t tell you is that it can cause severe anxiety, and drains you mentally to the point of depression in even the most laid back people.

People will talk about you, compare you to others, use you, they will view you as a service and not a person anymore.

Friends will expect discounts on everything and value you and your hard work less than a big chain store.

You have to worry about if you forget to email/message someone back, are they going to think it was on purpose? Did you disappoint them? Will they hold that against you? When in reality you just can’t get to everyone’s messages and emails.

Starting up and running a successful business puts incredible strain on personal lives and relationships, many of which fail because there is just often no work life balance. You need to be the director, the worker, the admin, the teacher, the trainer, the marketing team, the accountant, the cleaner..... All whilst being a parent, a husband or a wife, family support, friend...

There’s a reason you don’t see many people succeed in small businesses after 5-10 years. It takes dedication and sometimes it takes a toll. It’s freaking exhausting. Especially this past year.

Here’s a small reminder that we are just normal people with hectic lives. Be kind, be patient….. and hopefully more of us will stick around!
