I came across an article about Japan developing piezoelectric floors in order to try to create electricity for buildings using the pressure of a human step on specifically designed sensory tiles.
This triggered a memory of something I learned in a Walk For Life course about how the human body creates it's own piezoelectricity essentially for tissue repair. The human body is truly amazing!
Ruthy Alon, creator of the Bones For Life training, taught about piezoelectricity in her classes in relation to how we can create this in our own body by simply doing some heel thumps to the rhythm of our heart beat - a pum-pum rhythm.
What parts of the body are used to create this electricity? The bones, tendons, ligaments, cartilage and collagen which is everywhere.
What would be the benefits of doing heel thumps while waiting for the kettle to boil or while brushing your teeth?
In simple terms, stronger, healthier bones - preventing or slowing-down osteoporosis. The ability for greater tissue repair throughout the body including the blood vessels and skin. Who knows - maybe even stimulation for nervous system conductivity and even mitochondrial activation - pure conjecture on my part as science is still unsure of how this all works.
Consider doing heel thumps to the rhythm of your heart beat - pum pum - throughout your day (find the moments). Benefits happen even if you do this while sitting.
Move that piezoelectricity through your bones, cartilage, ligaments, tendons, collagen, cells! Strengthen yourself internally at the microscopic level and connect to your heart at the same time! Give it a whirl - it's in your body for a reason even if science doesn't understand why!
