Earlier this summer our very own radiologist Dr. Ify Mckerlie hosted 2 amazing informational sessions for family physicians in the Calgary area. These sessions covered topics such as guidelines for screening mammograms, the CNBSS study, common breast cancer myths, and more. 🩺

These events are all a part of Dr. Mckerlie's mission for her campaign, which aims to spread awareness to the topic of breast health screening and how important it is to get it done much earlier than thought. 💗

According to Alberta.ca, the median wait time for Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) in the three months leading up to October 2023 was 12 weeks (up three weeks from November 2022), with most patients waiting 30.4 weeks (when we looked at this stat in November 2022, the majority wait time was 26.9 weeks for an MRI exam.

Located in Calgary, Pregnancy & Infant Loss Support Canada (PILSC) aims to support families navigating grief. Infertility, miscarriage, termination for medical reasons (TFMR), stillbirth, neonatal loss and sudden infant loss syndrome (SIDS) are all different versions of loss, and PILSC is a not-for-profit organization that can help in Alberta.

Our Wellness Wednesday Tip is to cultivate a practice of letting go of your expectations this holiday season.

Celebrations, parties or family events may put you in a situation with high expectations. One great way to practice self-care over the holidays is to release any expectations, standards or ideas you may have set.

Meditating and sitting with your mind in the present is a helpful way to take life as it comes. Train your brain to be okay with uncertainty and the unknown. Let go of expectations. We often become stressed and frustrated when events do not match our preconceived ideas. If you have the mindset to let go of these standards and thoughts, you can avoid them.

There are three kinds of Nuclear Medicine exams performed at Canada Diagnostic Centres:

1. Bone Scan with SPECT/CT (as needed),
2. Renal Scans with Diuretic (if needed), and
3. Hepatobiliary (HIDA) Scans.

At the Marlborough location in Calgary, our team is trained in the unique requirements of pediatric imaging. Our ultimate goal is to deliver services in a manner that is as stress-free as possible for a child and their family members.

We have specially designed colour-coded Kid's Imaging requisition forms, making it easy for physicians and staff to locate when needed. Our requisition forms are also available at most EMR help desks.
