PSA: Buyer Beware! Dollarama and Big Box Stores Got a Dirty Little Secret…
If you didn’t already know, Johnson & Johnson is in hot water (pun intended) over their OGX shampoos and conditioners. Why? Because they contain DMDM hydantoin, which is basically code for “slowly leaking formaldehyde” every time it touches water. You know, the stuff they use to preserve dead things.
Here’s the rundown:
• DMDM hydantoin = preservative that releases formaldehyde.
• Formaldehyde = scalp irritation, hair loss, and yes, it’s also a known carcinogen.
And guess what? These toxic bottles aren’t just haunting Dollarama shelves—they’re sitting pretty in big box stores too. Poison in plain sight, people!
Here’s a quick list of the OGX products being called out in lawsuits:
• Biotin + Collagen Shampoo & Conditioner
• Renewing Argan Oil of Morocco (because nothing says renewal like hair loss, am I right?)
• Keratin Oil Shampoo & Conditioner
• All the festive, yummy-sounding ones like Candy Gumdrop, Frosted Sugar Cookie, and Sparkling Cider (delicious for your scalp… not really).
And let’s not forget those Nicole Guerriero collabs. Midnight Kisses? More like kiss your hairline goodbye.
If your shampoo costs less than your takeout coffee, it might be time to flip it over and read the ingredients list. Or better yet, stop trusting products that double as a science experiment.
Moral of the story: You get what you pay for. Except in this case, what you’re paying for might be bald spots, scalp irritation, and a starring role in a lawsuit. Buyer beware, friends—your scalp deserves better!
