Before school starts, make sure your teens brush up on Contact Lens Care 101:
• Follow the schedule your doctor has provided you for wearing and replacing your contact lenses
• Follow directions from your doctor, the contact lens manufacturer, and from the lens cleaning solution manufacturer to clean and store your lenses.
• Keep your eye exam appointments! Contacts can warp over time, and your cornea can change shape. To make sure your lenses fit properly and the prescription is right for you, see your eye doctor regularly.
• Contacts and water DO NOT MIX! Don’t shower, swim, or use a hot tub when wearing contacts.
• NEVER sleep in contact lenses.
• Practice proper hand hygiene when inserting and removing your lenses.

Childhood myopia, or nearsightedness, is on the rise. High myopia can be associated with an increased risk of retinal detachment and glaucoma.

To slow the progression of myopia, it is recommended for children to:
• Spend at least 2 hours per day outside playing in outdoor light
• Keep digital devices about 2 feet away and at eye level
• Decrease screen time
• Take breaks! Rest eyes every 20 minutes.

Did you know that prolonged sun exposure is linked to eye cancer?
Protect your eyes from the sun’s damaging rays. Only buy sunglasses with 100% UV-A and UV-B protection. Wraparound glasses offer the best coverage and help protect from wind, dust, and evaporative dry eye. Remember, a heavier price tag does not mean better UV protection; if the 100% UV label is there, less expensive sunglasses are also a great option!
