It’s a term you hear often enough, but what is telogen effluvium really? In our latest blog entry, we take a closer look at TE and identify some of the keys differences between hair shedding and hair loss.
Telogen effluvium results from a high stress event that leads to mass hair shedding as many follicles on your head enter the telogen (resting) phase at the same time. It’s alarming and can leave you scrambling for answers.

Hypo and hyper-thyroidism can contribute to hair loss in many ways. Since the thyroid hormone is such an important piece in regulating the hair growth cycle, an imbalance in either direction can have a major impact on your hair growth.
When the hair growth cycle is disrupted, follicles prematurely enter the telogen (resting) phase, where noticeable thinning and shedding can begin to occur.
Additionally, over and underactive thyroid hormones can alter the structure of your hairs, often leading to finer, more brittle hair throughout the scalp which, over time, will be noticeable to the naked eye.
