We have some new faces around here! Dr. Julie McSweeny has joined the Glenmore team to cover Dr. Robertson’s maternity leave. Here’s a little bit more about her:

My name is Julie and I’ve lived in Alberta for the past 20 years. I finished my undergraduate degree in Biological Sciences at the University of Calgary in 2015 and then headed to Edmonton for four years for medical school. I decided to come back to Calgary for residency and am thrilled to be starting my work in this city! I love hiking and biking in the summer and love staying warm in the Alberta winter. You can often find me spending time with my wonderful fiancé or big family (in a pandemic free world). I am passionate about providing comprehensive maternal and newborn care and am excited to be a part of this amazing team!

Welcome Dr. McSweeny!

We have some new faces around here! Dr. Rae Cantlon has joined the Glenmore team to cover Dr. Grainger’s maternity leave. Here’s a chance to get to know a little bit more about her:

I am originally from Ontario, but Calgary has been home for medical school, residency, and the enhanced skills program in Maternal Newborn Care which I completed in February of this year. Since then, I’ve been covering locums in Canmore doing family medicine and low-risk OB and currently work in low-risk OB at the Foothills and in High River in addition to Rockyview, as well as some breastfeeding medicine in the community and soon I will be joining a virtual women’s mental health focused counselling clinic. I’m passionate about women’s health, maternal and newborn care, and mental health.
If I’m not working, I can be found doing barre classes (at home now) or running the trails in South Calgary with my husband and our dog, Koda!
I’m really looking forward to working with the Rockyview group again :)

Welcome Dr. Cantlon!

Rockyview Hospital Main Entrance is under construction!

While the main entrance is getting a much needed facelift there is an alternate entrance just south of the usual door (closer to the entrance to emergency). There is very clear signage to guide you in to the hospital. There continues to be screening staff at the door who will ask you some questions before you enter the hospital.

*** if you are in active labour please skip the line, go straight to the entrance screeners and they will direct you up to the 6th floor ***

Renovations are expected to be done by December 2021

Update: Support Person Policy in Clinic and Hospital

Please note - your designated support person must be feeling well. They cannot have a positive or pending swab for COVID-19, any recent exposures to COVID-19, or have travelled outside Canada in the last 14 days.

Clinic: we’re happy to welcome back your support person to your prenatal/postpartum visits!

Hospital - Triage/Antepartum: still ONE support person, and for now they cannot ‘swap out’ with another person.

Hospital - Labour and Delivery: once you are admitted to L+D you are welcome to have the usual TWO support people!

Hospital - Post Partum Unit: the same TWO people you had on L+D are welcome on the post partum unit … just ONE AT A TIME please!

Prenatal Ultrasounds

🔸Ultrasound is one of the best and safest tools we have to assess your baby while they are still in utero.

🔸We commonly order three ultrasounds in pregnancy:

1. Dating Ultrasound: 8-9 weeks or later, establishes an accurate due date, makes sure the baby is in the right place, checks that the baby has a heartbeat.
2. Nuchal Translucency (NT): 11-13 weeks, often done in combination with bloodwork to make up the First Trimester Screen (FTS), the FTS checks for the likelihood of certain genetic conditions.
3. Detailed or Anatomic Ultrasound: 19-20 weeks, looks in detail at all of baby’s anatomy, checks the position of your placenta, can reveal the s*x of the baby if you want to know!

🔸We do not routinely order ultrasounds later in pregnancy unless there is something specific we are looking for/following up or you have specific risk factors.

🔸Newly pregnant? Talk to us about imaging in your pregnancy at your next prenatal visit!
