Founded in 2012 (formerly known as Young Pipeliners Association of Canada -YPAC), our mission is to empower young professionals to shape a sustainable future for energy infrastructure. To develop a more integrated and sustainable energy infrastructure backbone to address our energy challenge, we will require an unprecedented rate of innovation and paradigm shifts in thinking. We were delighted to meet with Greg McLean, M.P. - Calgary Centre , and so many driven Young Professionals last week at the Young Professionals Pints and Politics event in Calgary 🍻💭🤝

📌 It was inspiring to witness Young Professionals passionately engaging with MP Greg McLean on key topics in the energy and energy infrastructure sectors: demand vs. supply challenges, trade barriers, provincial restrictions, as well as the impact of the emissions cap and the implications of tariffs on Canada. The energy and insight that this generation of Young Professionals brings to these critical challenges we face are truly remarkable and profoundly motivating. Canadian Young Professionals bring a powerful commitment and innovative perspectives that inspire hope for meaningful change. In these rapidly shifting times, their fresh viewpoints are exactly what we need to navigate the challenges ahead with conviction.

An incredibly productive and inspiring technical workshop on shipping CO2 and H2 at the Calgary Petroleum Club, focusing on identifying and prioritizing critical challenges with shipping CO2 and H2 👏👏 Thank you to Energy Connections Canada for inviting us to the session, allowing an opportunity to gain valuable insights on our industry’s focus areas and prospects for engagement 🤝✨

This week, YEIP’s President & CEO, Ishrat Oishee, joined TC Energy’s Hermela S Mason and Enbridge’s Josh Agarwal, P.Eng, at ECC’s technical workshop. The interactive session addressed critical topics such as material repurposing, CO2 leakage detection, dispersion modelling, fracture propagation, and arrest testing at CFB Suffield, among others 💭📝

Our heartfelt thanks to the Canadian Energy Executive Association, Modern Miracle Network and YP Link (Energy in Calgary): a collaboration of the Young Professionals in Energy (YPE) - Calgary Chapter, Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) Calgary Section, WPC Energy Canada, Young Women in Energy (YWE) and Young Energy Infrastructure Professionals (YEIP) of Canada for organizing the Beyond Boomers event last week 👏👏

The panel, featuring Chris Slubicki, Michelle Okere, CFRE, Hon. Minister Rebecca Schulz, and Marcus Rocque, engaged in a powerful discussion on critical topics, including Canada’s reputation as a trusted energy partner, the effects of tariffs, opportunities for Indigenous business investment, the evolving Canada-US relationship, and the rising global demand for energy 🛢️⚡🔋

📌 Our Vice President, Joel Biftu, P.Eng., shared, “The industry is listening! Many companies are asking for Young Professionals to be included in the discussion of energy investment, development, and security.”

💭📝 In the opening remarks, our President & CEO, Ishrat Oishee, alongside the Chair of ‘74 CEEA, Alex Fulthorpe P.Eng, conveyed a powerful message. Ishrat emphasized, “Events such as today’s event, where we make sure that cross-generational knowledge and thought transfer is taking place, are not just important; it’s vital for the responsible stewardship of the industry.”

Canada holds an incredible abundance of energy resources that can significantly contribute to solving the world’s energy security challenges. As a significant player in the global energy industry, Canada has the potential to reshape its image as a reliable and steadfast energy partner on the world stage 🌍🌿

Advancing energy projects in Canada can significantly contribute to global emission reduction efforts ☁️🇨🇦🌿 It’s essential to recognize that if a project were to be halted in Canada, it might still move forward in other parts of the world where regulations may not be as stringent. By fostering development within Canada, we can ensure that sustainable practices are prioritized while still addressing energy needs.

The UBC Pipeline Integrity Institute is excited to present the short course "Understanding Canadian Pipeline Systems" in January 2025! Registration is now open for this online course, consisting of three lunch-hour modules (11:00 AM–1:00 PM PST) on January 14, 21, and 28, 2025.

🌟 New Advisory Board Member Announcement 🌟

We are delighted to welcome Ms. Shoji-Lee, Executive Vice President, Operations of TriSummit Utilities (TSU), to our Advisory Board. She has over 35-years of experience in both the natural gas and electric utility sectors in British Columbia and Ontario, as well as in the energy service sector. Her energy utility career has included executive positions at Union Gas Limited (now Enbridge Gas Distribution), British Columbia Hydro and Power Authority, Pacific Northern Gas Ltd, and now TriSummit Utilities. Leigh Ann is accountable for operational alignment, effectiveness and growth of TSU’s business units that include Apex Utilities Inc. (Alberta), Eastward Energy Inc (Nova Scotia), Pacific Northern Gas Ltd (British Columbia), ENSTAR Natural Gas (Alaska), and Bear Mountain Wind (British Columbia).

Leigh Ann is a professional engineer and holds a BASc in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Toronto. She is a Past Chairperson of the Canadian Gas Association and recently served as National Organizing Committee Chair for the IGRC2024 that was held in Banff.

As the Senior Vice-President, Safety and Technical Services, Natural Gas Pipelines at TC Energy, Trevor is responsible for safety and technical services across the Canadian, US and Mexico natural gas transmission and storage business. Prior to joining TC Energy in 2020, Trevor spent 19 years in the power generation industry in Canada, the U.S. and Australia.

YPAC provides the opportunity to bridge this knowledge gap for our members and to contribute to the future of our industry through the education of others.
