Each holiday season, a cherished tradition returns to AgeCare McKenzie Towne (Calgary, AB) - a Christmas village lovingly created and shared by Janice and her family. 🎄✨

Set up with care and heart, the village has become a familiar and meaningful sight for residents year after year. It sparks memories, invites conversation, and brings a sense of warmth and nostalgia that fills the space with holiday spirit.

It’s a simple yet powerful reminder of how traditions can connect generations, spread joy, and make the season feel truly special. 💙

Last month, residents at AgeCare Midnapore (Calgary, AB) took part in Opening Minds Through Art (OMA) - a nationally recognized program led by Recreation Therapist Sandi Barton that celebrates creativity, self-expression, and meaningful connection. 🎨

Through guided, failure-free art experiences, residents created one-of-a-kind pieces that reflect their individuality, imagination, and artistic voice. Over six weeks, six residents completed six unique works of art, each filled with emotion and joy.

The session concluded with a silent auction, giving the community the opportunity to take home a meaningful piece while supporting future art programming.

AgeCare staff were treated to an engaging educational session last month by Dr. Mohamed El-Hussein of Mount Royal University (MRU) in Calgary. Dr. El-Hussein holds the AgeCare Research Chair in Aging at MRU’s Centre for Health and Innovation in Aging, a role supported through AgeCare’s commitment to ongoing education and clinical excellence.

As part of the inaugural AgeCare–MRU Speaker Series, Dr. El-Hussein delivered a practical and accessible talk on respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) vaccination in older adults. He reviewed the clinical rationale for RSV vaccination, highlighted its effectiveness in reducing serious illness among older populations, and emphasized the importance of recommending RSV vaccination alongside COVID-19 and influenza vaccines to optimize protection against respiratory infections.

We look forward to Dr. El-Hussein’s upcoming Speaker Series sessions in 2026.

Earlier this month at AgeCare West Williams (Kitchener, ON), residents gathered with children from Doodle Bugz Early Learning Centre for a morning filled with stories, cookies, and hot chocolate. 🎄

Four residents took turns reading beloved holiday classics, including ’Twas the Night Before Christmas, Here Comes Santa Claus, Frosty the Snowman, and A Snowy Day, before wrapping up with festive carols the children had been practicing.

A beautiful reminder that connection and holiday cheer truly have no age limit. 💙
