As an active person in a physical job, what is my muscle care routine?
I move my body with purpose 5-6 days a week. Sometimes I need a bit more recovery than I used to, and I decide to walk instead of a "workout."
Half of the year I mostly run and weightlift, and half of the year I mostly bike, hike, run, and weightlift. (Which actually means running and weightlifting take a back-seat to hikes and bikes).
*Soon I will transition out of the hike/bike season and head into run/lift season.
There's generally always something tight, but it's always worse without activity. What do I do to support my body and activities?
▪︎Stretch: I have a 10-minute routine I do after running or gym time...which I am not so good at after biking or hiking.
▪︎Massage: I try and get a massage every month. This doesn't always happen, but mostly it does.
▪︎Physio and Chiro: I see a Physio for shock wave and IMS needling, as needed. And Chiro for active release, adjustments, and graston, as needed also.
▪︎Sleep: I am not a great sleeper, but I certainly do keep a regular schedule of bed and wake time. (And honestly, I wake up super early regardless of when I go to bed, so staying up late just isn't worth it to me).
▪︎Water: I drink at least 2L of water per day, sometimes more, and often added electrolytes are involved. (I carry water everywhere!)
Recovery is part of training. Supporting an active lifestyle is not just pushing, it's also creating space for repair.
