Community Education Service Free educational sessions on child and youth
mental health and health topics. Sessions are ONLINE

The Community Education Service (CES) provides parents/caregivers and other community members with opportunities to access free, evidence-informed education sessions and resource materials to address child, youth, and family health and mental health needs.The Community Education Service (CES) falls under Alberta Health Services' Child and Adolescent Addiction and Mental Health Programs (CAAMHP). We are housed in the Family and Community Resource Centre (FCRC) on the second floor of the Alberta Children's Hospital. CES education sessions are hosted at the Alberta Children's Hospital and at various venues in Calgary and nearby communities. Many sessions are also available via telehealth/video-conference technology for those interested participants located within and outside of Calgary, and where telehealth/video-conference facilities are available.

Creating a Culture of Respect: Understanding 2SLGBTQ for Parents

Presented By: Diana Wark (She/Her)
Parent Program Coordinator for Centre for Sexuality

We provide workshops designed to increase parents’ confidence and comfort in talking with their children about sexuality and relationships.

In this workshop parents can expect to gain deeper understanding of the concepts around sexual and gender diversity and we will provide tools to increase parents comfort in supporting 2SLGBTQ+ youth. We will explore terms and definitions as well as ways parents can engage in accepting behaviours and reduce rejecting behaviours in parenting our 2SLGBTQ+ youth.

Men’s Real Talk Workshop - Highlighting men’s experiences of abuse and the impact it can have on the family environment

Presenter: Trevor Williams, Men’s Real Talk Coordinator with Sagesse

Participants can expect to understand the importance of informal supports for people disclosing domestic abuse experiences. You can also expect to understand the nuances and types of coercive ways people can control one another and why someone might stay in an abusive situation. Participants will learn the impact this can have on children and youth in the home and how domestic abuse will impact the family. Finally, you can expect to have improved skills about how to have hard conversations with people in your lives.

Well-being is a precondition for student achievement. Students need to be well to succeed.

Currently, students face a wide range of mental health challenges, including stress, anxiety, and depression. This trend is alarming and requires our attention.

The Calgary Board of Education invites all parents and guardians to join us in an online series focusing on child and youth well-being. These sessions will be hosted in partnership with experts
from Alberta Health Services.

This session is be free and provides information, resources, helplines, and services to support healthy child and youth
development.
