Such a fun event - lots of feelings on graduation day. This was a truly inspiring group of entrepreneurs. Grateful to have been a small part of their journey. The folks at TEAMWork Cooperative have demonstrated that Supported Entrepreneurship is a very effective way of facilitating labour market entry for people experiencing disability based barriers to traditional employment. Amazing effort all around here in Halifax.

After moving from China to Canada, Scarlet Chen accidentally found herself on stage after years working behind the scenes in film. Since 2021, she has performed at several comedy festivals, opened for Maria Bamford, written her first play for the Nanaimo Fringe Festival, and created her one-woman show Citizen Chen. Alberta’s proposed Bill 13 is a legislative attack against workplace equity diversity and inclusion - and psychological health and safety. The Medicine Hat News interviewed me on this topic.

Our workforce is getting younger and more diverse by the year; Canada is struggling with productivity issues, and 70% of workers are experiencing daily negative emotions and disengagement at work. Employer competencies in equity, diversity and inclusive workplace culture are critical talent attraction, engagement and retention skills that have a direct impact on business sustainability and productivity.

Policymakers must have a solid understanding of workforce development trends and issues to respond appropriately.
