Have you heard of Eye Mites? Yes it’s a thing… like bed bugs but these live between your lashes.
They are harmless but left untreated can lead to dry eye disease and blepharitis. If you have too many they can cause infection that irritates the skin.
They come out at night and feast on dead skin cells before retreating to their hiding spots to lay eggs! Do you wake up with crusty’s in the corner of your eyes? That is actually mite p**p. (Yes you read that correct)
Symptoms : Rough skin, scaly,flaky or itchy skin. Redness or rashes. Skin sensitivity or burning.
If your eyes are affected, you could notice Blepharitis, itchiness and loss of eyelashes.
They CAN be beneficial because they remove dead skin cells and extra oil on your skin. As long as they are kept under control, you are unlikeky to have any problems BUT if you do require treatment our office can help you get rid of them and keep them under control!
For the month of March we are offering walk in Wednesday’s and Thursday’s where one of our technicians can look under a slit lamp at your lash line to determine if treatment is required. We can do the treatment the same day! It’s a very quick easy and painless treatment to remove the mites and provide you with the product that will kill the eggs.
