Let’s talk about fascia!
Fascia is a type of connective tissue that surrounds and supports muscles, bones, and organs in the body. It helps to hold everything in place and also allows for movement. It is a three-dimensional web of fibrous tissue that spreads throughout the body in a continuous network, like a spiderweb or a fishing net.

Fascia can become restricted due to several factors, including:
Trauma or injury:
A sudden injury, such as a sprain or strain, can cause the fascia to become tight or restricted.
Inflammation:
Chronic inflammation, such as that caused by arthritis or autoimmune conditions, can cause the fascia to become thickened and restricted.
Overuse:
Repetitive movements or prolonged periods of inactivity can cause the fascia to become tight and restricted.
Poor posture:
Maintaining a poor posture over time can lead to tension in the fascia, causing it to become restricted.
Sedentary lifestyle:
Sitting for long periods of time can lead to shortening and restriction of the fascia in the legs, hips and lower back.
Emotional Tension:
Stress and tension can also cause the fascia to become tight and restricted.
It's important to note that restrictions in the fascia can create a chain reaction throughout the body, affecting the alignment, movement and strength of joints, muscles and organs, leading to pain and dysfunction.
When one area of the fascia becomes restricted, it can affect the tension and movement in other areas of the fascia as well. This can lead to changes in the alignment and movement of the muscles, bones, and joints that the fascia supports.
For example, if the fascia in the legs becomes restricted, it can cause the hips to become misaligned, which in turn can affect the alignment of the lower back and spine. This can lead to pain, muscle tension, and reduced range of motion in the affected areas.
Additionally, when the fascia is restricted, it can cause a decrease in blood flow and oxygen to the area, which can lead to muscle tension, pain, and weakness.
This is why it’s so important to have effective strategies one can use on a daily basis to help stave off fascia restrictions and help reduce muscle tension and body pain in the process
