Thanks Joyti.
APEGA’s independent review of the Bearspaw Feedermain rupture confirms that the City had sound engineering oversight and risk-based management in place — and no unskilled practice or unprofessional conduct was found. That’s important validation of the work done under intense pressure by our dedicated engineers and technical teams, who kept Calgary running during a critical moment.
While I’m relieved our practices met the required professional standards, the report also reinforces the key point that this type of pipe has known failure risks across North America — even with monitoring in place. That’s why we must continue making sustained, strategic investments in Calgary’s water systems.
This is about more than just fixing what’s broken. It’s about building resilient, reliable infrastructure that protects Calgarians today and into the future.
