Sometimes the hardest part is realizing how much you adapted just to get through the relationship.

Over time, people can learn to stay quiet, over-explain themselves, question their own needs, or constantly monitor other people’s emotions. These patterns often begin as ways of coping or protecting yourself.

Even after the relationship ends, those habits can remain.
Healing isn’t about blaming yourself for the ways you survived. It’s about slowly reconnecting with your own voice, needs, and sense of self again.

This time of year always reminds me that healing isn’t linear.

Things soften slowly.

New beginnings often happen quietly.

I’ve always found something grounding about nature and small moments like this one. A reminder that growth doesn’t have to happen all at once.

Burnout is more than feeling tired. Over time, chronic stress can keep your nervous system stuck in survival mode, making it harder to rest, focus, feel present, or cope the way you normally would.
You might notice:
• Constant exhaustion, even after resting
• Feeling emotionally numb or overwhelmed
• Irritability or anxiety
• Trouble sleeping or relaxing
• Feeling disconnected from yourself or others
Your mind and body are connected, and burnout is often your nervous system signalling that something needs attention.

Starting therapy can bring up a lot of uncertainty.
Many people spend months, sometimes years, talking themselves out of therapy.
Not because they don’t need help, but because they’re carrying fears like:
• “I should be able to handle this myself.”
• “Other people have it worse.”
• “I don’t know what I’d even say.”
• “What if I’m judged?”
• “What if I finally let myself feel everything?”
Beginning therapy doesn’t require having the right words or a perfectly clear explanation for what’s wrong.
You’re allowed to come in unsure, overwhelmed, guarded, emotional, hopeful, or all of the above.
Therapy can simply be a place to start untangling things. One conversation at a time.

Maybe you feel like you have to hold back what you really want to say, avoid certain topics, or tell yourself “it’s not a big deal.”
