🩺 Educational Dinner Event for Physicians - We did it!

We would like to sincerely thank the wonderful primary care providers who joined us on May 12 for NexCerebrum’s Educational Dinner Event with Dr. Dilpriya Mangat ().

The evening highlighted the importance of recognizing Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI) and Subjective Cognitive Impairment (SCI) as critical windows for meaningful Alzheimer’s disease prevention through both pharmacological and non-pharmacological approaches.

Early intervention can help reduce caregiver burden, support prolonged cognitive independence, and improve quality of life for patients at risk of Alzheimer-type dementia. 🧠

A special thank you to our sponsors, Eisai and AMSC, for supporting this important discussion.

AMSC is building a unique healthcare model and is looking for primary care providers to join our growing team in 2027.

📣 NexCerebrum is also hosting a public educational event on May 28th. Spots are limited, so make sure to RSVP — link in bio!

A big thank you to BD&P, for the invitation to join yesterday’s IWG panel discussion on brain health, mental performance, evidence-based fitness, nutrition, and longevity.

Some standout takeaways from the evening:

🧠 Single-tasking matters. One of the key takeaways was that multitasking can increase cortisol levels and contribute to brain fog, while focused single-tasking helps reduce cognitive overload and supports long-term cognitive health.

😴 Sleep was another major topic, with an important reminder that quality matters just as much as quantity. If you are not waking up refreshed and energized, your brain may still be missing essential recovery and waste-clearance processes critical for long-term brain health.

🧬 Most excitingly, advances in science now allow blood biomarker testing to detect Alzheimer’s-related pathology years before symptoms emerge, creating powerful opportunities for earlier prevention and intervention.

💪 GLP-1 therapies were also discussed, particularly the importance of maintaining muscle mass during weight loss. People can lose muscle mass alongside fat loss, making protein-rich nutrition and regular exercise essential for long-term health and healthy aging.

Thank you to
• Dr. Karen MacNeill .karenmac
• Kristi Stuart
• Kathy Tissington
for the honest discussion, engaging insights, and great humor throughout the evening.

Special thanks as well to Robyn Bews for expertly moderating the conversation, Alicia Quesnel for the thoughtful introduction, and Susan Fader for bringing engagement and humor as MC.

Not all memory changes are “just aging.”

Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI) sits in the space between normal aging and dementia—and it’s more dynamic than most think.
✨ 1/3 of people can improve with early action
✨ 1/3 remain stable
✨ 1/3 face higher risk of progression

The takeaway? Early awareness changes outcomes.

Dementia is not a single disease, but a syndrome that affects multiple brain functions, including memory, judgment, executive functioning, attention, and visual-spatial abilities. These changes can significantly impact personality and day-to-day functioning. In Alberta, dementia cases are projected to rise by 286%, underscoring the urgency of awareness and action. Dementia is not a normal part of aging, and early diagnosis can meaningfully influence disease progression, care planning, and outcomes.

At the women’s health event, Dr. Mangat discussed the cognitive overload and why it matters for women’s cognitive longevity.

Multitasking overwhelms working memory and floods the brain’s processing capacity. The “superpower” narrative comes at a neurological cost of reducing productivity by 40% during the activetask swithching.

Studies referenced in the talk:
1. Babcock, Recalde, Vesterlund, Weingart (2017) — Gender Differences in Accepting and Receiving Requests for Tasks with Low Promotability.
2. Whillans et al., PNAS (2021) — Extension request avoidance predicts greater time stress among women

Thank you to for hosting such a powerful event and bringing together an inspiring community of women. 💛

Key highlights from the keynote discussion:
🔶 Up to 40% of dementia is preventable through lifestyle changes. Small, consistent habits can create significant impact on long-term brain health.

🔶 The 6 pillars of cognitive longevity:
Exercise • Nutrition • Sleep • Mental Stimulation • Social Connection • Stress Management
We don’t have to perfect them all, but having one more can already make a difference.

🔶 While many women are skilled multitaskers, multitasking increases cognitive overload. Working memory has limited capacity, and protecting focus protects brain health.

We also explored the importance of recognizing menopausal changes, advocating within the healthcare system, and prioritizing self-care and confidence through every life stage.

It was a true pleasure connecting with everyone and being part of such a meaningful conversation. ✨

If you’re curious about how you can better support your brain health and overall wellness, we’d love to connect.

🧠 Did you know?
Vitamin B12 (cobalamin) plays a critical role in myelin formation, the protective coating around nerve fibres, and supports neuronal integrity.

When B12 levels are low, brain signaling slows, and cognitive function can suffer. Supporting B12 isn’t just about energy — it’s about protecting your brain.
