Smoking irritates and inflames the tissues in your nose, throat, and airway.
Over time, this swelling narrows the space you have to breathe while you sleep, making airway collapse more likely. Smoking also disrupts normal sleep architecture and increases the risk of snoring and oxygen drops at night.
For people who already have sleep apnea, smoking can make their condition more severe and harder to treat. Cutting back—or ideally quitting—often improves snoring, sleep quality, and overall health.
