“The yoga pose is not the goal. Becoming flexible is not the goal. Standing on your hands is not the goal.
The goal is to create space where you once were stuck. To unveil the layers of protection you’ve built around your heart. To appreciate your body and to become aware of the mind and all the noise it creates. To make peace with who you are…”

🧡

As national nurses week draws to a close, I spent some time reflecting on my life’s career as an obstetrical nurse. Never in the past 40+ years have I taken the privilege and honour of being present, when a new life enters the world, for granted. It has been my life’s passion to help make each family’s birth experience as positive as possible. To help them feel empowered, to help them feel safe and supported. To help them feel strong and to help them feel seen. To remind them their baby is going through the birth experience as well and that their little one is doing their very best to be born. To help them see that the whole medical team is rooting for them.

I miss being at the hospital; I miss births, I miss being part of moments in one’s life that are truly transformative. I miss “the high” of knowing you’ve made a difference. I miss knowing every day that I am living my life’s purpose. To be really honest, I even miss those little private victory moments of successfully starting a challenging IV.

But I don’t miss the 5am alarm wake ups, the times of high stress, the exhaustion after a long shift without any breaks. I don’t miss the difficulty of staying awake at 4 am or missing Christmas with my family year after year….

I’m tearing up a bit as I write this but along with the tears is so much gratitude that I still get to stay connected to the world of pregnancy, birth and babies. I now get to share my decades of experience through birth education classes and teaching pre and postnatal yoga and I am loving every single minute of it.

To all those still in “the trenches”, I see you, I respect you and I admire you so much. Keep shining your bright light on a world that desperately needs you. Know you make a difference and that all your efforts and selfless contributions for the wellness of others do not go unnoticed.

Happy Nurses week, much love to all 🧡🙏🏻🧡

(In case you’re interested, I posted the story behind the picture in the comments, this is already such a long post!)

Sending lots of love today to all mothers. Those with small kids, big kids, expectant mamas and special love to those who can only carry their babies in their hearts instead of in their arms. I see you.

No matter how old you are, you never stop needing your mom. This year is the first Mother’s Day without my own mother. Walking past the Mother’s Day cards in the store felt heavy on my heart. Sending lots of love to others in similar situations 🧡

I hope your day is filled with Light, Love and Gratitude. Thinking of you!

My niece’s 4 year old daughter, visiting from England, joined me for today’s practice. “I’ve never done yoga before” she said in the most adorable British accent, “is it like dance”? She then rolled out a mat and followed along like a little yogi pro. Yes Isobel, just like dancing, you’ve got to feel your way though. Well done little one 🥰

Morgan has been a huge part of our little studio and I love to have seen her little family grow throughout the years. She is also the talent behind our little onesies, somehow finding the time to make these for our studio while running after her two adorable boys 💙
I am grateful for YOU Morgan, over 100 classes, wow!
I have loved having you for each and everyone of those.
Thank you for being wonderful you 🙏🏻🧡

A precious moment with little Owen during our mom and baby yoga class this week - his gorgeous blue eyes melt my heart!

His mom Emma attended countless prenatal yoga classes as well as our birth preparation and breastfeeding workshops and now continues to come to our little studio for postnatal yoga and mom and baby classes. Thank you Emma, it’s so fun to have you both!

I appreciate your yoga enthusiasm so much but hate to leave you “hanging” on the waitlist - hopefully the added classes next week will work for your schedule.

Another extra class was added on February 7th, Friday evening, at 6:30pm. This is a Pre and Postnatal Yoga combo class and there is still space 🧡

Hope to see you on your mat soon!
Sending much love your way,
Irena
