The Peters Laboratory for Chronic Infectious Diseases

The Peters Laboratory for Chronic Infectious Diseases Biomedical research on chronic infectious diseases with a special focus on vector transmitted diseases

The Peters lab is focused on the immuno-biology of chronic infectious diseases, with a special emphasis on vector transmitted and neglected tropical diseases. The lab employs cutting edge multicolor flow cytometry and two-photon microscopy to unravel the intricacies of host-pathogen interactions in the skin and internal organs employing the Leishmania model of parasitic disease. Our research inves

tigates the earliest events in the host response, including inflammatory cell interactions with vector inoculated parasites, and the regulation and expression of immunity to reinfection, including an exploration of the concept of immune memory during chronic infections.

Congratulations to first author Leah Shan Hohman on her publication investigating the requirements for effective protective immunity against the parasitic infectious disease Leishmaniasis.
Snyder Institute for Chronic Diseases Cu***ng School of Medicine

Author summary Ongoing chronic infection with the intracellular parasite Leishmania major results in robust protective immunity at sites of secondary challenge. However, translation of our understanding of this protective response into an efficient vaccine has remained elusive. This is due, at least...

We will be participating in a Panel Discussion in celebration of International Day of Immunology on April 29th talking about COVID and the science of immunology!

On April 29, World Immunology Day, join the Snyder Institute for Chronic Diseases and Calgary Public Library for "Using Our Immune System to Understand, Control and Defeat COVID-19". Meet our immunologists – experts who are scientists, clinicians, community
members, and parents – to hear their perspectives and ask your
questions about the response to the pandemic and our path forward. Featured speakers: Dr. Jennifer Corcoran, Dr. Christopher Mody, and Dr. Nathan Peters. Facilitator: Dr. Raj Bhardwaj. Free registration here https://bit.ly/3n57Atd
