At some point in time we all feel torn in different directions; like there is a battle inside of us and parts of use are pulling in different directions. If we get to know the parts of us that pull more deeply, and understand them better, it becomes easier to move forward in a way that feels good for us. This is one of the things that Internal Family Systems Therapy is used for; deepening self understanding and feeling less polarized.💜💜

If this was you today you are not alone. The guilt and shame we all feel after moments like this is overwhelming. But as you have heard so many parenting professionals like .vanessalapointe or my personal favourite say, the repair is more important than being the perfect parent. Your kids learn by watching you and when we repair well they learn how to apologize, take ownership, forgive and have compassion. It creates space for your kids to mess up and come to you without fear when they do. Mistakes are important lessons for all of us. And you are tired. 😴

It is rainy, and although it isnt cold yet, we can all feel it coming. It is easy and normal to have feelings about saying goodbye to summer and transitioning to what is next. There is a part of our culture that is very "Ya Fall!" and on beautiful autumn days that is something we can grab onto. But what do we do with ourselves as the mornings get dark and the rain comes down.

During this your wellness is important. Establishing a good self-care practice now will protect your mental health as winter rolls in and SAD becomes a reality for many of us. So set aside sometime for reflection, hobbies that sooth your body and mind, and begin the journey of building a relationship with a therapist or a friend that will support you in the months ahead.

As we head into week 3 of school, some of us are settling into a routine and others of us are starting to panic. Will it be like this all year?! Is it going to get worse?! I wish I could say it will get easier and everything will be fine, but for some of us school stays hard. Focus on what is in your control. Develop a routine outside of school that prioritizes self regulation. Exercise. Eat. Sleep. Connect. These things will help create a sense of stability in your world outside of school that will help to manage the stress.

Remember all transitions are hard, some of them are harder for some of us. Routine creates structure and our brains and bodies love predictability.
