🌟 Volunteer Spotlight – Get to Know Our Volunteers at Saint Luke’s Place
Stan J- Board of Directors

A native of Chatham, Ontario, Stan pursued his post secondary education at the University of Guelph, earning an Honours BA in Geography, followed by a Bachelor of Education from the University of Western Ontario. He devoted 30 years to teaching, spending 14 years at Galt Collegiate Institute and 16 years at Southwood Secondary School, before retiring in June 2003.

Stan is a long time member of St. Andrew’s Hespeler Presbyterian Church, where he served faithfully as an Elder for 29 years and as a Board member for more than two decades.

He joined the Saint Luke’s Place Board of Directors in 2009 and is currently our longest serving Board member, offering deep institutional knowledge and steady leadership.
During his tenure, Stan served as Board Chair from 2014 to 2015 and continues to play a critical leadership role as Chair of the Redevelopment Committee. In this role, he is helping to guide one of the most significant and transformative initiatives in the organization’s history.

We are deeply grateful to our generous donors, whose support helps make life at the Saint Luke’s Place campus richer, more comfortable, and more meaningful. Thanks to donor generosity, we are able to enhance our community through new equipment, welcoming décor, engaging recreation and outings, and the rebuilding of our long‑term care home through the Welcome Home Capital Campaign—along with many other important initiatives.

A special thank you to the Estate of the late George Layzell. Their generous gift made it possible to renovate one of our apartment lounges, located on the floor where George lived for many years. This renewed space now reflects the warmth, comfort, and true sense of home that George experienced during his time here.

We are sincerely grateful to George and his family for their kindness, generosity, and lasting support. 💙

🎨 Last week, we were delighted to host a Human Society Art Program social—an experience that quickly became a highlight for both our residents and team! 🐾

During this fun and interactive workshop, participants explored the elements of art while ✏️ doodling and 🎨 drawing their favourite animals, or simply showing off their creative talents.
The room was filled with laughter, conversation, and creativity, and it was wonderful to see everyone so engaged and proudly sharing their artwork. 🐶🐱

The afternoon was made even more special with visits from some furry friends, whose presence brought extra joy, comfort, and countless smiles 😊💛. It was truly a heartwarming afternoon filled with creativity, connection, and community—one we will remember fondly.

🌟 Volunteer Spotlight: Meet Patrice

A Longstanding Connection
Patrice’s more than forty‑year career with the Royal Bank is what first connected her to Saint Luke’s Place. In 1976—the year Saint Luke’s Place opened—Royal Bank established an on‑site branch to support residents and tenants. As the bank’s representative, Patrice visited regularly and quickly became a familiar and trusted presence.

Over the years, Patrice formed strong relationships with residents and joined the Auxiliary, supporting fundraising efforts and special events.
Patrice served as Chair of the Saint Luke’s Place Foundation, contributed to the Fundraising Committee, and now brings her experience to the Board of Directors—continuing to enrich the lives of those who call Saint Luke’s Place home.
