One day I took a resident for a birthday lunch at the Coachmen. She ordered a steak sandwich.
I was forever changed when I saw her excitement over a whole steak—and even just getting a real steak knife. She shared how it felt to always see her food already cut up.
After that day, I bought us a bunch of steak knives, and we started noticing other moments too—like showing the pie before it’s cut into those perfectly imperfect slices.
That’s the beauty behind this image. This gentleman had a major stroke and is almost totally dysphagic—foods are pureed, drinks thickened.
But today, he spent time admiring the steak, cooked to preference. He poked it with a fork, smelt it, looked it over—before it was taken to a puree state.
And behind it all is the team that makes this possible. The team that sees the beauty in creating these small but meaningful moments.
It’s more than a steak we see here.
