Meet Brianne — Foundation Rehab’s first Occupational Therapist and Certified Hand Therapist!

There’s a lot going on in the hand. With 27 bones, dozens of joints, muscles, tendons, and tiny nerves, the hand is one of the most complex parts of the body. When something goes wrong, it can make even simple tasks feel impossible.

Hand therapy is a specialty that helps you get strength, movement, and function back — whether you’re recovering from an injury, surgery, or living with arthritis or repetitive strain.

Brianne brings over 10 years of experience in treating everything from fractures and tendon repairs to post-surgical care and nerve injuries. She uses splinting, exercises, scar care, and hands-on treatment to help you get back to daily life.

When she’s not working, Brianne’s outdoors with her husband and two boys — hiking, paddling, biking, gardening, or lifting heavy at the gym.

If your hands or arms are holding you back, Brianne’s here to help.

Did you know? Up to 70% of women in midlife deal with joint pain, muscle loss, or sudden injuries — but too few know these are menopause symptoms too.

Experts call this the Musculoskeletal Syndrome of Menopause (MSM) — a hidden piece of the hormone puzzle that affects bones, muscles, tendons, and joints.

The good news? You can manage it — but not with random quick fixes. 👉 We just broke this down fully on our blog — tap the link in bio to read it.

The Problem with Rehab Exercise

Or any rehab plan, really.

We often overestimate how much a few weeks of exercises will “fix” a problem — we expect pain to vanish fast, strength to bounce back, or movement to feel perfect overnight.

But at the same time, we underestimate what steady, simple rehab done over months — or a full year — can really do. Small, consistent changes can rebuild strength, restore trust in your body, and keep pain under control for good.

That’s why sustainability is key.

The reality is:
Even basic exercises work — but only if you stick with them long enough for your body to adapt.

Lifting with pain? Here are the 3 mistakes I see ALL the time:

🏋️‍♂️ 1️⃣ Not lowering the weight enough.
You’re not losing your gains forever. You’re giving your body the chance to rebuild. Big drops in load are often needed short-term to get back to big lifts later.

🏋️‍♂️ 2️⃣ Rushing the weight back up.
The temptation to “test” that old PR too soon? Major relapse risk. Use caps, small jumps, or double progression. Progress the reps before the plates.

🏋️‍♂️ 3️⃣ Sticking to one lift forever.
Squat, bench, deadlift are great — but so are split squats, rows, curls, rowing machines, single-leg work. Variety gives your joints options to heal while you stay strong.

💡 Research-backed takeaway:
Load management, gradual progress, and variety are PROVEN keys in good lifting rehab. Don’t fear lighter weight or new moves — fear being stuck with pain.

There’s no ‘perfect’ knee arthritis exercise. There’s the one you’ll actually do.

📚 Recent research (Haber et al, Journal of Physiotherapy 2025) showed:

There’s no single best exercise for knee OA.

No clear “more is better” for sets & reps.

Enjoyment & consistency beat the ‘perfect’ plan you hate.

Real story:
A patient came in. Knee pain made stairs tough. Her friend gave her a typical gym plan — squats, lunges, clamshells. She hated every minute. Did it maybe once a week.

So I asked: What DO you enjoy?
She loves rowing. Didn’t think it would help. But the research shows: ANY exercise you’ll do consistently can help pain & strength — as long as you stick with it.

So we built her plan AROUND rowing. 10 minutes, 3x/week. One month later:
✅ Rowing up to 17 mins, 3–4x/week
✅ Didn’t miss a session
✅ Stairs feel easier again.

Your knees don’t care if it’s a barbell squat or a rowing machine. They care if you move — and keep moving.

👉 If your plan bores you, it won’t work.
👉 If you enjoy it, you’ll stick with it.
👉 That’s the real ‘secret sauce.’

Save this for a motivation boost — and tag a friend who needs permission to ditch the boring plan.

Ever do way, way too much after finally having a good day when you’re dealing an injury?

That’s called the boom and bust cycle — and it’s common in rehab.

You rest when things hurt. Then one day you feel better… and try to make up for lost time. You lift more. Move more. Catch up on everything.

But the next day? You’re stiff, sore, and out of action again.

This cycle makes recovery slower, not faster.

Instead of riding the rollercoaster, try this:
✔️ Stick to a steady plan, even on good days
✔️ Let your body build up gradually
✔️ Trust the process — consistency wins

No need to max out every good day. Save some gas in the tank so you can show up again tomorrow.
