Pilates isn’t just a workout, it’s an education in how your body moves. While both our Pilates formats are rooted in the teachings of Joseph Pilates, they offer two distinct ways to challenge your core and improve your mobility.

The “Why” Behind the Work:

If Strength Training is about building the “outer” armor, Pilates is about strengthening the “inner” support system.

• Core Stability: We focus on the “powerhouse” (your deep abdominals, pelvic floor, and back muscles). A strong core is the foundation for everything else, from lifting weights to simply sitting at a desk without pain.

• Mobility & Length: Unlike traditional lifting, Pilates emphasizes lengthening the muscles while strengthening them. This improves joint mobility and flexibility, helping you feel “unlocked” and agile.

• Postural Alignment: Pilates is the ultimate antidote to modern life. We focus on spinal alignment and shoulder stability, helping you stand taller and move with better posture.

This is a 50-minute, slower-paced session focused on the classic repertoire. We prioritize control, breath, and refining your technique.

• What to expect: Intentional movements like toe taps, leg extensions, and abdominal curls. You’ll leave feeling lengthened and deeply connected to your body.

⚡️ Power Pilates: The Energy

A 50-minute, full-body workout that moves at a dynamic, steady pace. This session challenges your endurance, balance, and coordination through both mat-based and standing exercises.

Whether you’re exactly on track for your 20 classes or you’re planning a bit of a “February sprint” to get there, this is the moment where the real work happens. The first half of a challenge is usually powered by new-month excitement. The second half? That’s powered by discipline.

If you’ve been feeling tight from your Strength sessions or a little “bound up” from the Spin bike, Yin Yoga is your secret weapon for recovery.

While Restorative Yoga is about total relaxation, Yin is a slow-paced, intentional practice designed to target the deep connective tissues (fascia, ligaments, and joints) that active exercise often misses.

The “Why” Behind the Work:

Yin is the “cooling” balance to the “heat” of our dynamic fitness classes.

• Deep Tissue Release: By holding floor-based poses for several minutes, we allow the muscles to relax so the stretch can reach the deeper connective tissues. This is the most effective way to improve long-term flexibility and joint mobility.

• Injury Prevention: Tight fascia is often the culprit behind “niggles” and injuries. Yin helps hydrate these tissues, making your body more resilient and agile during high-intensity movement.

The Roadmap:

Session I: Physical Foundations (Feb 28)
We deconstruct the “how” of alignment. Expect an introductory talk, meditation, and a practice focused on how poses should feel in your body with one-on-one guidance from Jana.

Session II: Breath & Movement (Mar 7)
Master the art of the flow. We focus on the transitions, learning to move with ease and coordination by syncing every movement to your breath.

Session III: Philosophy & Integration (Mar 14)
We weave it all together. Combine your physical practice with core yoga philosophy to bring deeper meaning to your movement, ending with an extra-long restorative relaxation.

The Details:

We highly recommend attending all three sessions to experience the full arc of the series, as each week builds upon the last. However, if you can only make one or two, they are also bookable as standalone workshops.

If our Strength and Spin classes are the “gas pedal,” Restorative Yoga is the “brakes.” This is a very gentle, therapeutic style of yoga designed to move your body out of “fight or flight” mode and into a state of deep, healing relaxation.

The “Why” Behind the Work:

Restorative yoga isn’t about stretching your muscles; it’s about supporting your nervous system.

• Nervous System Regulation: By holding gentle poses for longer periods (supported entirely by props), we signal to the brain that it is safe to relax. This shifts the body into the parasympathetic nervous system, which is where true digestion, immune support, and hormonal balancing happen.

• Stress & Cortisol Reduction: High-intensity life (and high-intensity exercise) can keep our cortisol levels spiked. Restorative yoga helps lower these stress hormones, which is essential for better sleep, mental clarity, and overall longevity.

• Active Healing: This practice fosters a meditative state that allows the body to rest and heal from the inside out. It’s the perfect recovery tool for those who train hard in our other classes or anyone navigating a high-stress season of life.

What to Expect:

• The Vibe: Quiet, meditative, and deeply peaceful.

• The Support: We use bolsters, pillows, blocks, and mats to fully support the body. The goal is to feel “weightless,” so your muscles can completely let go of tension.

• The Movement: Minimal. You may only do 5 or 6 poses in the entire hour. It is a time for stillness and internal reflection.

Think you aren’t “flexible” enough for yoga? This class is for you. Because the body is entirely supported by props, there is no physical strain involved. It is accessible for every body and every skill level, regardless of injury, age, or experience.

🧘 What to Bring: A water bottle and warm layers (since the body temperature drops during deep relaxation, socks and a cozy sweater are highly recommended).

🚲 You Asked, We Listened: The Marathon Hybrid is BACK! ⚡️

For those of you who feel like 50 minutes is just the warm-up - this one is for you. We’ve received so many requests to bring this format back, and we are thrilled to offer a special, one-off Marathon Hybrid Ride with Sarah on Sunday, February 8th at 12pm.

This extended session is the ultimate test of endurance. We are blending the metric-based intensity of a Power Ride with the soul-stirring energy and choreography of Rhythm.

The Vibe:

Expect a focus on sustained effort and heavy climbs where you’ll track your RPM and power, seamlessly integrated with rhythm-based movements like pumps and dips. Whether you’re training for a literal marathon or just looking to see what you’re capable of when you settle into the work, this is where you find your edge and stay there.

Is this a one-time thing?

Welcome to Ocean Mountain Yoga

Home of sacred gathering, community, ceremony, yoga and meditation.

You can find us in the heart of downtown Campbell River BC.

Our collective of experienced teachers hold powerful space and teach from their hearts. You can find a variety of classes such as hatha, vinyasa flow, prenatal, mom and baby, kundalini, nada, restorative, yin, nidra, meditation.
