As part of Ontario’s participation in the International Delirium Awareness Day Flag Campaign, our team is proud to support efforts to raise awareness about delirium, what it is, how to recognize it, and how to prevent it.
We are committed to helping patients stay oriented, safe, and supported throughout their hospital stay. Education on delirium prevention is provided to all staff and shared with patients and their caregivers at admission, so everyone can play a role in early recognition and care.
Simple but meaningful changes have been made across our hospital. In the Emergency Department, tools like a Senior Care Comfort Cart, large patient-facing clocks, and easy-to-read bedside calendars help patients stay grounded and comfortable. On our Inpatient Unit, whiteboards support orientation, while early mobilization and therapeutic activities, led by our Restorative Care Team, help keep patients active and engaged. Additional support from our Behavioural Supports Ontario (BSO) RN ensures patients experiencing delirium receive the care they need.
By working together, we are creating a more senior-friendly environment and improving the care experience for older adults and their families.
