January is the time of year when hospitals love to celebrate the first baby born of the New Year, and while CMH no longer has a maternity ward, our Emergency Department team is absolutely ready if a baby decides they cannot wait to arrive at a neighbouring hospital.
That said, we thought it would be fun to take a little trip back in time and share a flashback to something truly special: the very first baby ever born at CMH 💙
While we don't have a photo from that moment, we’re lucky to have this snippet from "Campbellford Memorial Hospital: 50 Years of Care Beyond Compare," reminding us of this special milestone.
"Karen Walmsley, daughter of Millard and June, was the first baby delivered in the new hospital on September 2, 1953. The Board approved the waiving of all maternity fees for this new arrival to celebrate the event. In 1972, Karen became an employee in the Admitting Office of the facility and later worked in the Business Department as Payroll Clerk."
72 years later, while our services may have evolved, one thing remains the same, caring for our community at life’s most important moments.
