✨ New Hospital Update 🏥

Last week, our Board Chair Carrie Hayward and CEO Jeff Hohenkerk shared an update with Trent Hills Council on our new hospital project, including the important work ahead now that our planning grant has been officially approved.

They outlined where things stand, what’s coming next, and the exciting potential this project holds for the future of our community.

Last week at our AGM, we were proud to present the Dr. Bob Henderson Award for Physician Leadership to Dr. Mandana Goodarzi, one of our exceptional Hospitalists on the Inpatient Unit. This award was created to honour the legacy of Dr. Henderson and recognize a physician who demonstrates outstanding leadership, mentorship, and lives our hospital’s core values, just as Dr. Henderson did.

Dr. Goodarzi is a steady, compassionate presence on the Inpatient Unit. She leads inclusive daily rounds, supports learners at all levels, and advocates for her colleagues with professionalism and care. She’s collaborative, accountable, always learning, and constantly thinking about how we can improve care and patient outcomes. Congratulations, Dr. Goodarzi, and thank you for everything you do.

The logo on the T-shirts represents a new look with meaning…. The rising sun represents a new day, life, progress and health…. and the rolling agricultural hills of the communities that we serve. They are already a best seller.

Today’s Values Award spotlight celebrates the spirit of collaboration with the “Dr. Thomas Hackett: Group Achievement Award,” which honours a team that truly lives our Better Together value.

This year’s award goes to the incredible CMH Volunteers, a group that embodies teamwork, compassion, and community. From greeting visitors and supporting departments to tackling behind-the-scenes tasks, our volunteers show up with kindness, dedication, and a shared commitment to making a difference. They’re the friendly faces that make CMH feel like home, and a perfect example of how we’re always Better Together. 💚

Our Values Award spotlight continues today with the “Learning & Innovation Award,” presented to the team member who best exemplifies our Create Possibilities value.

This year’s recipient is Darlene Milne, a true champion of growth and improvement. From training staff on the new POCT program to sharing monthly EPIC workflow tips and chairing NIPPAC, Darlene is constantly looking for ways to enhance how we work and how we learn. She doesn’t just support innovation, she leads it. Darlene is a driving force behind meaningful change at CMH.

Continuing our weeklong celebration of this year’s Values Award recipients, today we’re spotlighting the winner of the “Excellence in Quality & Leadership Award,” recognizing the team member who best lives our Learn & Grow value.

This year’s recipient is Wendy Cross, and she embodies this value through and through. As CMH’s only full-time Respiratory Therapist, until very recently, Wendy has been a steady source of strength, leadership, and optimism. Whether she’s on call 24/7, mentoring students, or leading key committees, Wendy is constantly raising the bar for care. Her dedication makes a lasting impact, and the ED and Inpatient Unit simply wouldn’t be the same without her. 💙

As we continue our weeklong spotlight of this year’s Values Award winners, today we’re proud to feature the recipient of our “Respectful Workplace Award,” presented to the team member who best embodies our Act Responsibly value. This years recipient is Heather McColman.

This award is given to someone who consistently leads with respect, empathy, and integrity, even in tough situations. Heather McColman does all this and more. Since joining CMH, Heather has made a huge impact: reimagining group therapy programs, leading meaningful projects, mentoring students, and creating a collaborative, client-focused environment. Her ability to communicate with care and treat others with dignity has helped shape a healthier, more respectful workplace for patients and staff alike.
