Ella Thompson of Camrose, Alberta passed away on November 20, 2025 in Camrose at the age of 96 years.

She was the youngest of five children, born to Ole and Karen Loken on July 2, 1929. She was predeceased by her parents, two brothers Gulbrand (1997) Edward (1987), two sisters Lily Bohmer (2013) Helga Jacobs (2015) and husband Edward Thompson in 2013.

Ella is survived by her three children Noella Joy, Karen (Knute), James (Corinne); six grandchildren Austen (Nicole), Parker, Anna, Willow (Noel), Siri (Dawid), Clark (Maddy) and seven great-grandchildren Ella, Kenna, Quinn, Kore, Sigrid, Rowan and Soren.

After marriage in 1953, Ella and Ed farmed near Viking, AB until 1972. Then they were employed in Camrose for 13 years. Ella was the first social worker hired at Rosehaven Care Centre and Edward was an orderly for Bethany Care Centre. After early retirement, Ella and Ed sold clothes for Patricia Fashions at care centres for four years and assisted their son on the farm. They travelled to Norway for their 25th and 40th anniversaries, which included a bus tour to parts of Europe and a bicycle team in the Netherlands for 10 days with an Elderhostel group. This was followed by travelling in a camper van to HLLBC for Bible Camp weeks and many Southern gospel weekends in Alberta every summer. Their 50th anniversary was held at HLLBC in conjunction with a family reunion. The 60th anniversary was located at CLBI for the weekend in 2013.

Ella and Ed moved from their home in Camrose to Lakeside Village in 1998, and lived there for 15 years.

After Ed’s death in 2013, Ella lived at Lakeside until moving to Deer Meadows July 1, 2019. She was very blessed to live next door to her dear friend, Don Olson for 6 years. They too, enjoyed Southern gospel concerts and driving around the country side exploring different towns and places of interest. We are so grateful to Don for his loving care and support for Mom when she experienced failing health in recent years. She moved to the Seasons in April, 2025 and Bethany Meadows in July, 2025. We are thankful for the caring staff and personal care that she received at both of these care centres.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 6, 2025 at Resurrection Lutheran Church in Camrose, Alberta with Pastor Jeremy Osterwalder officiating. Cremation has taken place and inurnment at the Golden Valley Cemetery in Viking will take place at a later date.

Edward Peterson

June 24, 1936-October 29, 2025

Edward Peterson passed away peacefully at his farm, surrounded by his family on October 29, 2025 at the age of 89.

Ed was born on a farm west of Ferintosh. After graduating from Mount Royal College in Calgary, Ed hitched a ride with Ollie Williams, a trucker, who dropped him off at a hotel in Estevan, SK, where it was up to Ed to find a job with Sun Oil in the oil field in the Frobisher area. There he met Alice at a hockey game. They were married in 1960, built a house and started a family of three girls: Shelley, Rhonda and Myrna.

Ed and Alice moved their family to Edson, Alberta in 1966 when Ed got a job with Hudson Bay Oil and Gas as a gas plant operator in the sour gas plant. He earned his 4th and 3rd Class Steam Tickets, studying whenever he could catch some time. With these qualifications, Ed got a job with Mobil Oil in the sour gas plant in Carstairs, Alberta. Close proximity to classes at SAIT made it easier to get his 2nd Class Steam Ticket. Working 12-hour shifts gave Ed time to be a part-time cattle farmer. He and Alice bought a quarter-section of land close to his family’s home place west of Ferintosh in 1974.

With Ed’s experience and qualifications, he was hired by Francana Oil to make the sour gas plant at Rosalind operational, a job at which he was successful, starting in 1978. By this time, the family had moved permanently to the farm in Ferintosh. In the early 1980’s Ed left the oil patch for good to become a full-time farmer, with a farrowing barn full of hogs and a cow-calf operation of 50 head of cattle. The 1980’s were a time of travel for Ed and Alice. They made two trips to Europe and numerous trips to Las Vegas and Reno, meeting up with his brother John. Fascinated by the North, Ed and Alice made two trips to Alaska—one by air and the other by road, as well as trips to Whitehorse and Yellowknife, the latter before the bridge was built across the Mackenzie River.

In retirement in the 1990s, Ed helped to launch the Camrose Kodiaks junior hockey team, serving on the Board of Directors, as well. Both Ed and Alice were volunteer drivers with Meals on Wheels in Camrose. They floor-curled regularly for many years, with Ed skipping and Alice playing third on championship teams at bonspiels from Sedgewick to Glendon to Breton to Ponoka. Ed skipped a team that represented Alberta in the Canadian championship but didn’t come home with a trophy from that one.

The family would like to thank Ronda Loyer, Roxanne Schulz and Jackie Codel of Plan It Consulting, and Chris Sedgwick of Integrated Services for their generous and kind care of Ed and Alice. They have become part of our family.

Ed is survived by his beloved wife Alice, daughters, Shelley Stagg Peterson, Rhonda Siemens and Myrna Johnston. His grandchildren, Shelbi Matheson, Jolea Siemens, Adam Johnston and Gabby Nebert, great grandchildren, Harlow and Sienna Matheson, and Owen Nebert, and his brother, Stanley Peterson.

He is predeceased by his parents, Anna and George, by his sisters, Tena Augustin, Dora Leland, Jane Treleaven and Rhoda Richards, and by his brothers, Peter, John and James.

A memorial service will take place on Saturday, November 1, 2025 at 2 p.m. at Webers Mount Pleasant Chapel (2 Mount Pleasant Drive) in Camrose, Alberta.

Memorial contributions in Ed’s memory may be made to Parkinson Canada.

Our Story

Being a family owned, operated, and independent funeral home means our policies and practice are not dictated to us by any corporate office or shareholders. This allows us the freedom to serve our families in the same manner as we would wish to be served. We are grateful for the positive response we have experienced within the communities we serve and our pledge is to continue to provide the service that merits the confidence you place in us.

Our story begins with Marvin who started his career in 1971 at Southside Memorial in Edmonton. He moved to Camrose where he was employed by Arnold Hoveland at Hoveland Funeral Home in Camrose. When the Hoveland Funeral Home was sold Marvin moved back to Tofield where he ran the family farm and also built Tofield Funeral Home.

In 2002 we purchased the Mount Pleasant Funeral Chapel (formerly Hoveland Funeral Home) in Camrose. Marvin’s sons Chad, Tyler and Layne all work at the funeral home.

Marvin was elected by his peers in the funeral profession to the Alberta Funeral Service Regulatory Board. AFSRB regulates educational standards, monitors performance standards, licensing and investigates consumer complaints.
