Quadricep Muscle Contusion (Charley Horse): Most common acute injury to happen to the thigh. Caused by a traumatic blow to the muscle that causes bruising to the lateral and/or medial thigh. Usually results from a high contact sport such as rugby or football. Pain would be felt with a passive stretch or active contraction.

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome: This condition affects the had, wrist and fingers and is caused by a major nerve being compressed in the write (carpal tunnel). It is caused by repetitive movements of the hand and wrist and causes tingling, numbness and burning. Massage therapy can help by treating surrounding structures to reduce the compression of the nerve.

Lateral Ankle strain: also known as “rolling your ankle” is caused by extreme eversion. Walking on uneven ground, tripping, jumping or landing awkwardly are all causes. A client would immediately feel pain at the outside of the ankle. Swelling and bruising may be present. The strain usually corrects itself in a few days.

Mortons Neuroma: Is a condition in which the tissue thickens around one of the nerves leading to your toes. This can cause sharp, burning pain located at the ball of the foot. It is fairly common and is caused by shoes that are too tight or high heels. As the condition worsens, so does the pain.

Biceps Brachii Rupture: This happens when the long head attachment of the bicep ruptures. This is commonly caused by overuse, age or corticosteroid use. The tendon can degenerate causing the rupture. Usually happens to the dominant arm or to someone with a history of shoulder issues. A rupture can follow a rotator cuff tear. With correct diagnosis and treatment, a patient can fully recover.

Whiplash: Whiplash is a neck injury caused by forceful flexion and extension of the head. This injury is usually a result of a car accident where someone was hit from the rear. Whiplash can vary in degree of severity and can produce signs and symptoms of pain, neck stiffness, loss of range of motion, headaches, fatigue, numbness and sometimes even memory problems or blurred vision. It is important to see a doctor right away if you have suffered whiplash.

Lorel graduated from MH Vicars School of Massage Therapy Remedial Massage Therapy program. As an age-group triathlete and marathon runner since 2009, she experienced the benefits of massage therapy first hand. In her spare time, Lorel enjoys staying fit through hiking, multisport, and yoga and also loves cooking, traveling, and continued education for both special interests and developing her skill set.
