Hello from Sacred Health! I am slowly coming out of my posting silence since the pandemic started. I found the amount of emails, notifications, blogs, videos etc that I was receiving was overwhelming and I did not want to add to the noise. Plus, I found the time I spent on screens increased dramatically as more of my work went on-line. What fascinated me was how the screen time completely affected my energies. I knew it would have an impact but to have the visceral experience was something else. So if you are on a screen a lot, GROUND, GROUND, GROUND and cross your energies over! Over the next few months, I will be posting videos of Energy Medicine techniques on how to ground yourself, cross over your energies and keep yourself balanced and strengthened for a stronger immune system and a more healthy, joyful and vibrant YOU!
May you be well and radiantly healthy!

February is the month of LOVE. l think every month ought to be about love because it seems to me that what we need is more love, particularly self love. It is an epidemic in our culture to not love ourselves. And what a tragedy because people shine their light when they know they are loved, especially when they love themselves.
One of the first ways to start loving yourself is to LISTEN to yourself. Have you ever noticed that when you fall in love you listen intently to that person, wanting to know everything you can about them? So try listening deeply to yourself...like, really listen. Listen as though you are the most important person in this whole world to you (because you are!). Listen because you are genuinely curious about yourself. What do you truly care about, what makes your heart sing, what brings you fulfillment, joy, energy? This is not about being self absorbed. The paradox is that when we love ourselves, we feel safe in this world and naturally extend that love to others, contributing the gift of our being to those around us.
May you love yourself unconditionally and let your light shine!

As a follow up from last week, as an Advanced Practitioner of Eden Energy Medicine, I also do Regression Work, which I absolutely love! In the words of Donna Eden, "Regression is the process of energetically and psychologically returning to the time and place where core issues in our present lives became established. This may involve loss, betrayal, illness, injury, or other forms of trauma. When we have intractable physical, emotional, or energetic difficulties that seem to have no clear physical cause-and-effect relationships, a Regression session can illuminate how and when these patterns were created. In the energetic field of that earlier time, balancing and restoring disrupted energies using EEM techniques can be deeply healing."
Regression work is powerful and profound because you go back to the root cause for your issue and heals it energetically at that time.

May we all have the courage to heal our wounds so that we can step into our light and shine!

Hello! It has been awhile since I last posted anything but I am back! I was speaking to a couple of clients this week and I realized that they were not aware that as an Advanced Practitioner of Eden Energy Medicine, I can repair Basic Grid energy in a person. The Basic Grid is the foundation or infrastructure of the other energy systems, like the frame of a house that holds everything else together. If the Grid is impaired, all other energy systems in the body become compromised, making it harder to adapt, stay grounded or even heal fully. Physical, emotional, or spiritual trauma can break the Grid, affecting the energetic health of the whole person. Repairing the Grid re-establishes this core energy, which then has a positive and corrective influence on all the other energy systems. In situations where the Grid is badly damaged, the benefits of other energy interventions may not be sustained until the Grid has been repaired. If this resonates with you, contact me to have your Grid repaired at kira@sacredhealth.ca or 403-688-9204.
Be radiant!

Today is an unusual, sacred and powerful day with the Spring Equinox occurring at 3:58 pm and the Full Moon, in fact a Super Moon, happening at 7:42 pm (MST). This is an incredibly fertile opportunity to create clear intentions for what you want in your life. What are you inspired to manifest? What will you change, let go of, and what committed action will you take, in order for your intentions to become reality? Make sure you honour this powerful time with some ceremony, either in stillness or in community.
Bless you all and may we manifest health, peace and joy in this world!

When it comes to our health, we know to eat well, exercise and get enough sleep but we often do not realize the importance of social connection in our lives. In one study, social connection was found to be a greater determinant to health than obesity, smoking or high blood pressure. In fact, social connection increases longevity, strengthens the immune system, helps you recover from disease faster and reduces anxiety, depression, and even suicidal behaviours. It also gives you higher self-esteem, greater empathy and helps you be more trusting and cooperative. In other words, social connection significantly affects your mental and physical health. Currently, social connection is waning in North America at an alarming rate, according to several studies. Part of the issue is that people think they are connected because they communicate with others on social media. However, there is a direct correlation between being more connected on social media and feelings of loneliness. We are inherently social creatures and we need real, in person, interactions with others. We need to feel understood and connected to people and to be physically in their presence. If you need more social connection, here are some ideas:
1) Be active in your community
2) Don't text, email, Instagram or Tweet someone. Instead, spend time with them or at the very least, phone them so that you can hear their voice
3) Volunteer
4) Join a club or social organization
5) Take a class - pottery, yoga, dance, learn a language
5) Value the friends you already have and invest in them your energy, time and attention
6) When you are with someone, be willing to open up, actively listen to them, and share more of yourself

We live in a world where toxins are a reality. There are toxins in the air we breath, the water we drink, the food we eat and in our houses, places of work and so many other spaces we visit. This statement is not meant to put you into fear. Our bodies are quite capable of detoxifying and keeping us in robust health. That being said, with the added stress of our lives, sometimes our bodies need some help. It is important to do what we can to reduce or eliminate toxins and to support our bodies in the detoxification process. The subject of detoxing is pretty extensive, so I am simply suggesting a few things for you to consider.
1) Remove any mercury from your mouth in the form of silver amalgams
2) Filter your water with a proper filter system
3) Eat organic food as much as possible
4) Watch your seafood consumption and choose only those foods that are low in mercury
5) Use natural cleaning products and natural cosmetics
There are many foods and supplements that help you eliminate toxins like chlorella, charcoal, clay, ginger, beets, cilantro, garlic, broccoli sprouts, green tea, mung beans and parsley among others. And support your liver, kidneys and skin as these are your main organs of detoxification. Start each morning by squeezing half a lemon in some warm water and adding a dash of apple cider vinegar...sip on an empty stomach. Drink lots of clean water. Repeated use of an infrared sauna is also an excellent way of eliminating toxins. These are only a few ideas and my intention is really to get you to think about how to reduce the intake of toxins in your life and how to support your body to eliminate the toxins that you can't avoid.

What can boost your immune system, reduce your risk of certain cancers and chronic diseases, lower your blood pressure, reduce bad cholesterol, cut incidence of Type 2 diabetes, slow the aging process and even combat depression and reduce anxiety? AND help you achieve a healthy weight and look fantastic? EXERCISE! Moving your body does all that and more. There has been much said recently about high intensity training as a highly effective way of increasing your fitness by burning fat, combating cancer and metabolic syndrome, and reducing inflammation in your body. I agree and yet, I personally think it is best to do what you enjoy and add variety so that you don't get bored. Try high intensity a couple times a week and then try something that is more yin in nature, like Yoga or Tai Chi. Add some spice and go to a dance or gym class. Have fun with friends and play a game of soccer, hockey or basketball. And get outside...going for a walk, bike, ski or run has the added benefits of you breathing in fresh air and connecting with Nature. You can work out with friends, attend a class or enjoy some solitude. Do what works for you, make it enjoyable, and the rewards will be manyfold!

Of all the factors that contribute to poor health, stress is one of the most damaging. Stress contributes to weight gain, high blood pressure, immune suppression, heart disease, hormone imbalance and inflammation (which can lead to diabetes, cancer and more). The stress response is important for saving our lives but it is not meant to be turned on for most of the day on a daily basis. However, being 'stressed out' has become normal in our culture. As a result, it is essential that we incorporate stress reducing practices into our lives. Here are a few ways:
1) Meditation: Meditation is one of the best methods for calming your mind. Sitting quietly for even 5 minutes a day and watching your breath and being aware of the stillness will change your life. There are also great apps that you can download with guided meditations such as Insight Timer or Headspace.
2) Exercise: 20-30 minutes a day. Walk, swim, go to the gym, bike or ski...(more on that later)
3) Practice Yoga or Qi Gong
4) Belly Breath....inhale through your nose down into your belly for a count of 2-4 and then exhale through your mouth for a longer count, such as 3-5.
5) TW Smoothie: A wonderful energy exercise to calm down your system (see video from June 5, 2018).
6) Gratitude...stop throughout your day and notice what you are grateful for...and feel it....the mountains, your family, your health etc...being in gratitude is an amazing stress reducer.
7) Energy Medicine and Energy Psychology (such as EFT) are some of the best stress reducers!
When we learn to relax, we have time to really enjoy this beautiful life we have the privilege of experiencing.

Sleep is essential for health and well being! I cannot emphasize enough the importance of sleep. It is astonishing to me how many people struggle with sleep and assume that is normal. Common...yes, but normal...no. Lack of sleep has been reported to increase your risk of disease, shrink your brain, kill your s*x drive, cause weight gain, mood swings, depression and even premature death. If you are not sleeping between 8-10 hours and feel generally well rested, here are some tips.
1) Get to bed between 9:00 - 11:00 pm.
2) Try to wake up at the same time each morning.
3) Turn off all screens: TVs, computers, smartphones etc 1-2 hours before going to bed. I know that is hard for some but it makes a huge difference! If this is not possible, get blue light reducing glasses for work/screen time in the evening.
4) Make your bedroom a sacred space. Do not argue or discuss heated issues in the bedroom. Remove all TVs, computers and phones and get a stand-alone alarm clock.
5) Darken your room as much as possible to shut out all light.
6) In the morning, stand outside for a bit to get your circadian rhythm firing.
7) Do not consume caffeine (coffee, tea, cola, chocolate) after 2:00 pm.
8) Eat at least 2-3 hours before you go to sleep.
9) Take magnesium in the evening as this relaxes your muscles and helps with sleep.

There is so much information about supplementation and here is my take on this subject. First, eat right! Then add a good Omega 3 oil if you don't eat lots of wild salmon, mackerel, sardines, flax seeds etc. Omega 3 oil is excellent for brain health! Supplementing with Vitamin D if you live in Canada is a good idea. Probiotics are excellent for maintaining a good bacterial balance, as long as you do not have SIBO. If you have any sleep issues, try taking magnesium in the evening. Our soil is quite depleted in magnesium so we are often in need of this essential mineral. A good multivitamin is a solid reassurance but again, nothing beats a nutritious diet of organic food. For specific issues, consult an expert. I am also a fan of turmeric to help with inflammation but I prefer to throw a chunk of turmeric in my morning juice than to take a pill. You can spend excessive amounts of money on supplementation, so I just want to give you my take on the essentials.

Eating well is essential for health. Again, each person has individual needs so if you have concerns in this area, go to a Functional Medicine practitioner or Holistic Nutritionist. However, some basics are the following: eat a plant-based diet that is mostly organic. At the very least, check out www.ewg.org for their list of the top foods that need to be organic (the Dirty Dozen). Fill your plate with vegetables that are the colour of the rainbow. For animal protein, eat grass-fed, hormone free meats. Make sure you include healthy fats like avocado, salmon and nuts. Drop the sugar and limit processed foods and refined carbs. If you have gastro-intestinal issues or inflammation, look at the main culprits of gluten, dairy and soy. And drink lots of filtered or spring water, particularly if you live in a dry climate like Canmore. Finally, eat slowly, chew your food, and savour the flavours. Most importantly, enjoy your food and fully receive the nutrition and nourishment from each bite.

Much of health comes down to some simple basics: eat well, supplement where needed, get enough sleep, reduce stress and actively relax, exercise, detox from toxins, stay connected with friends and family, and finally, balance and strengthen your energy systems!
It seems to be human nature for us to want the ONE THING that will give us abundant health, longevity and vitality, whether that is a diet, a certain exercise plan, or a specific breathing exercise. However, when I have studied older people who are healthy and vibrant, they seem to pay attention to most of the above, in their own individual ways. And that is key, to find out your way of connecting to health habits that fit for you and serve your own uniqueness. Over the next few weeks, I will write out some guidelines for each health basic, along with related energy exercises. This list is not complete, nor am I intending to give a definitive answer to the question of how to be healthy. My intention is to bring awareness to what I feel are essential aspects of health and give you some ideas so that you can explore what works for you. And most of all, don't take any of this too seriously, laughter is the best medicine!

'Tis the season...for celebration! And that often means indulging in rich food and festive drinks. There are ways that you can support your body so that you don't have to make New Year's resolutions to lose weight or detox for ages afterwards.
1) To help you metabolize your food, tap your Spleen points before and after you eat (see my May 15 video post on where to tap).
2) You can support your Liver by massaging the source point on your Liver meridian, Liver 3 (at the junction of the web between your big and second toes - see photo). The source point sends energy directly to your liver.
3) Further support your liver by squeezing half a lemon into warm water and drinking this first thing in the morning.
4) Most of all, eat slowly and enjoy the nourishment of each bite!
Cheers!

Shift from expectations that pull you down to gratitude for what is! As Christmas approaches, notice your expectations. It is wise and wonderful to intend for peaceful gatherings, joyful celebrations, deeper connections with friends and family; however, having unrealistic expectations can make us feel disappointed when things don't work out just as we wanted them to. Have clear intentions of what you want for this time and then let go of the expectations...Then, see what shows up and enjoy it. The more we can just meet what is right in front of us and embrace that, the more we are able to relax, celebrate and enjoy what really matters.
A beautiful energy exercise that I love is Heaven Rushing In. It fills you with universal healing energy and is a great way to return your inner compass towards gratitude (and away from expectations that deplete you...)
May you welcome in love, joy and laughter!

Staying grounded and remaining relatively calm as you prepare for Christmas will make the whole journey so much more enjoyable. It is the holiday season after all, a time to enjoy and be grateful! Here are some energy exercises to keep you in your body, to relax, and to be much more able to handle what can be overwhelming for many.
1) To stay grounded, massage your K1 points on the bottom of your feet (see the photo). Rub those points and even push out in all directions from that point to open it up.
2) Firmly plant your feet on the ground, place your hands on your thighs and breath deeply into your feet. Imagine or feel your exhaled breath moving into the Earth to root you down. Then imagine or feel the breath or energy moving up from the Earth, feeding your entire system.
3) To help calm your nervous system, practice breathing deeply into your lower belly. Inhale for a count of 3 and exhale for a count of 5. Do this for at least 5 breathes.
4) If you are overwhelmed or feeling anxious, do the Triple Warmer (TW) Smoothie (check out the video I posted on June 5, 2018)
Bring a sincere intention to fully enjoy this holiday season while remaining grounded and calm!

11/27/2018

Christmas is around the corner and my sincere wish is for you to be energetically grounded and calm as you prepare for the holidays, to support your body (and liver) while enjoying the rich food and libations, and to invite in the Spirit of this time of year so that you feel enriched by this season. And if you are one of the many people who find this time of year difficult, I wish for you to be gentle and loving to yourself...to honour where you are at and to learn how to support yourself a little more this season.
To start, Spoon Your Feet! Use a stainless steel spoon and rub the bottom of your feet. Doing so will balance the polarity of your entire body and correct for irregular energies. What this means is that you will then be attracting the Earth's energy up into your body and not repelling it. You need to be attracting Earth energy so that you can draw that energy up and feed yourself energetically and be grounded. More on that next week...
Blessings, Kira

What would your life be like if you completely trusted that whatever is happening right now, is exactly right for you? What would it be like if you knew, deep inside, that your life, exactly as it is, is your temple? That it is the perfect sacred path that serves your highest good? When we stop arguing with life, when we stop expecting it to be different, an interesting thing happens - we start to show up for the life we ARE having. And when we can fully attend to what is right in front of us, then we are present and in the moment. Our rational mind might argue that we will never achieve anything, that nothing will change if we don't strive for something else. The fascinating thing is that the opposite is true. When we are attending to what is, then our energy is more focused and the appropriate next step unfolds before us, leading us in the direction best for us. Ultimately, this is mindfulness.

Did you do anything today to balance and strengthen your energies? In the mountain town of Canmore where I live, many people take exceptionally good care of their physical bodies. People are mindful of what they eat, they are active athletes (skiers, bikers, runners etc), and they are generally concerned with their health and fitness. So it amazes me how little most people do for their energies. We know that we ARE energy; even our physical bodies are essentially energy. When our energies are strong, healthy and balanced, we experience more vitality, clarity of mind, joy and health. Our energies support and affect the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual aspects of ourselves in more ways than most people can imagine. If you take only 5 minutes a day to do something for your energies, you will notice a difference! 10/16/2018

Trauma is stuck or frozen energy in your energetic body. At some point, due to an event or a series of events, you were unable to process what was happening to you. As a result, when you could not fight or flee, your survival instinct was to freeze - to avoid dealing with what was too confusing or too painful to face. I realize I am over simplifying, but I think we can make trauma out to be more complicated than it is. Whether it was an accident, a medical intervention, physical/emotional/mental/s*xual abuse or many other things that you were not able to handle at that time, you were not able to fully allow yourself to meet the situation and you went into that freeze. Resolving trauma is about gently and tenderly meeting yourself, once again, when you are in a safe environment and have the support. You can then give yourself what you need to process your experience and start to thaw that freeze energetically. It is important to understand, to bring context, to what happened to you that caused the freeze, but even more important to allow the stuck or frozen energy to actually thaw. Once the energy moves and can complete itself, then you can heal fully. An example would be when a child is hit by a parent. Up to a certain age, the child will naturally be confused - how can someone who is supposed to love and protect me hurt me? This is far too much for most children to process; therefore, the anger, sadness, betrayal and fear that they feel gets shut down. Over time, that child becomes an adult who might have anxiety when anyone raises their voice or they might be unable to trust another person, shutting down their ability to have intimate relationships. Once they have met those emotions and worked with that frozen energy, they can bring their adult selves to the situations that would normally trigger them and meet them wisely. Unfortunately, trauma is a part of life. Many things can happen to us that are too hard for us to cope with at that particular time. Part of becoming mature and responsible adults is to heal that trauma, to learn from it and to become more compassionate as human beings. Healing our trauma does take courage but it brings back parts of us that have been missing - our joy, our trust, our ability to be intimate, to be vulnerable and to love. Love yourself enough to want all of you and all of your energy to be here and present.

Anxiety is not a life sentence! No matter what you have heard, you CAN heal your nervous system. Energy medicine, as well energy psychology, are effective modalities at helping you heal anxiety. I am often dismayed by how many people will come to see me who truly believe that they will always have anxiety. We then have to work through that belief in order to start the healing process. There are ways of calming your energetic system and teaching yourself how to down regulate (move from your sympathetic nervous system or fight/flight/freeze response to your parasympathetic nervous system or your digest and relax state of being). If you have anxiety, please see someone who can help you. I have so much compassion for anyone who has anxiety. And I understand how difficult it can be to even think about going to see someone. It takes great courage to heal. But please know, you CAN heal yourself and teach your system that "normal" is to be relaxed!
